How much money was really spent on campaigning. Most of the campaign money goes to his legal bills.

You only have to defeat Trump one more time. This time. You won't get any other far out candidate have his mass appeal. Doesn't mean bad things can't happen under another administration, but not these kind of bad things - while the rest of America stands by and looks on. Trump is their unicorn

lol that's not a terrible strategy by Trump. Calling the Democrats dirty and undemocratic, stealing the nomination from Biden.

Not that facts matter, but no one stole anything, he stepped down.

John Shapiro as VP to lock up Pennsylvania. Harris campaign exclusively to women and black voters in those states. Campaign never leaves any of those states.
Everyone already knows what's happening everywhere else.
I think John Shapiro would be an excellent choice, and frankly would have made a much better candidate than Harris, but historically speaking, VP from a certain state does nothing to help win that state.

The undecided voters or people who would have sat probably just wanted someone coherent.

Harris gives them that, not 82 and stumbling around with her words.

it's also incredibly stupid and weak. He spent months with "that guy is unfit for office" as his only strategy, now it's "they stole it from Joe"? I know many Trumpists lap his BS up like it's ice cream, but come on.

To your previous point if Harris is a terrible candidate who isn’t? I don’t see who, in the current situation, is a better candidate or why. What am I missing?

If he just stuck to him stepping down because he is unfit, he could have said I am right. But this guy is a complete moron. Now he just looks like a old incoherent man yelling at the clouds.

Gavin Newsom comes across as far less "fake" than other options and has a lot of charisma. Obviously it's not ideal that he's a "coastal elite" but he'd have had the best chance, I think. But he's clearly waiting for 2028.

He already endorsed Harris yesterday, along with a lot of others.

Yes, we are talking about who would have potentially been a better option, not suggesting that he try to wrestle a nomination away from Harris. That ship has sailed.

You got me wondering about this. Maybe it's just misguided hope, but I think you may be right.

Trump maxed out the rhetoric and insanity right from the start. Anyone remotely cut from his cloth has, so far, been unpalatable to his base. DeSantis blew a tire and Lake is irrelevant, and the Boeberts and MTGs of the world seem to be taken less and less seriously, even though they can stoke the fires of Trump's base.

Who's the snake in waiting in 4 years? That is, if Trump doesn't get elected and potentially fudge around with term limits?

Well, if they win, it's Vance, obviously.

To add to that, Republicans will almost always go with the most outrageously deplorable candidate in primaries, regardless of whether they have a chance in the general election. Trump is the only one who seems to be able to rally that crowd and still have a chance to win overall.

If Trump/Vance win and he can keep Trump in check a bit and come off as somewhat normal, he probably doesn't get through the primaries. If he goes all in MAGA crazy, then he wins the primaries easily but likely loses the general.

Do you think he will hold the same appeal? I suppose if he operates under Trump's wing (or maybe hoof?) for 4 years he'll pick up a few things. Then again, he could be just as reluctantly repulsed as Pence was.

bit surprised of the trump and gop meltdown this morning, were they really wrong-footed by the Biden announcement yesterday?
