usually yes, usually a plane diverting is no big issue or anything, but I don't know if you've heard but the 787 has been having a lot of issues... don't have to try being a smart@#$
All setup in some grass about a half mile east of the field to film the CF18 demo. RCMP gives us the boot, we can't stay there in case the plane crashes. WTF? Surely the tens of thousands of people that are actually at the field are in far more danger. I was scouting that spot for weeks.
Depends where you were, airshow has a box which has to be empty during the show. As for spectators, all the acts are designed to direct energy away from the crowd, so they really shouldn't be in danger, whereas someone sitting at the end of a runway would be in a direct flight path. the aerobatic box is 5000 ft wide, 1500' deep and is min 1000' from the crowd. so you could have been close.

I just don't think there has to be a "news story" on every 787 delay/divert etc. Some of it is warranted, most isn't.
Sorry, and unfortunately I have no idea when this may be made public (or if it even becomes reality). I think it will happen though, although chances are it will be a seasonal service and only a few flights a week.
