The broadcast saying a player is "digging in" is very unlikely to be a reference to McDavid at all. It's just a phrase associated with putting in effort in general.
|
Nope. The frequency of its use has increased notably since McDavid’s tantrum, specifically amongst the Sportsnet broadcast team members
Shortly after the tantrum, while we were laughing about people nonchalantly putting stuff on shelves and mulling about, seemingly not even noticing the shrieking (probably because it is not unusual in there), the Sportsnet staff were marveling at his drive and leadership
You would not have heard in the past that Bennett was ‘digging in for a faceoff’ as he is gliding and approaching the dot
It is not a phrase that he invented, but he used it in an attempt to motivate and to lead. They love him, they love marveling at him, and they have adopted it
They are trying too hard to make it work.
If you think it’s normal, maybe they are winning

Don’t be surprised; spekky lobbying for more penalties on Bennett. Because Raffi Torres. Another clueless word salad. Even managed to mention crapweasels Perry and ramblin’ gamblin’ Kane in the same article without making the mental connection about dirty plays.
As oilers call the refereeing supervisor when they are aggrieved, I’d call spekky’s supervisor except it’s snet and the supervisor is encouraging this.
Oh and btw spekky never at a loss for hyperbole; apparently some pass in the game with the glitter twins was the best pass ever seen.

Someone should tell them: “Gretchen, stop trying to make 'fetch' happen, it's NOT going to happen!”

I mentioned earlier in the thread, Bennett addressed it in his availability
Said he was pushed and the goalie took out his heel and he did not agree with the call. He was pretty matter of fact about it

It was made fun of it because he screamed it while having a tantrum, and basically being ignored by the players.

Best part was Ekholm raging and falling on Skinner himself

I would like to see Florida tighten up their defensive zone coverage and stop puck watching.
I would also like to see the officiating be more equitable even if that means letting the teams play.
As opposed to calling goaltender interference when that was clearly a blown call. Bennett was not only pushed into Skinner, but Stuey kicked out his leg and then flopped.

Hope Bettman is paying close attention the ratings are in the toilet in the US. Down almost 30% and that is with the new expanded rating system that includes streaming. So the numbers might be even worse. One of the least watched finals of all time and it’s all because of Edmonton and having the least marketable superstar in the 3 pro leagues.

Hockey will never be more than a fringe sport in the US. Ratings are poor when it's as good of a final as you can get from a quality of play standpoint. Close games, scoring, animosity. Best hockey played this year outside of 4 nations. You can lead an American to hockey, but you can't make them like it.

Coilers are bad for business.
Get McDavid somewhere else - in a US market.

McDavid going to Toronto and getting to watch Treliving of all people try to build a team around him under the biggest magnifying glass in the universe would be such a delicious pile of schadenfreude.
You might have to time his burning of picks in Scaramuccis.

He doesn't do anything when it's physical. But if he's not playing I guess it would be beneficial since they would probably put Jeff Skinner in who's even worse.
