Great Britain (weird to see that country name.. am too soccer focused I guess) is probably the one you really want to avoid, puts them in a situation where Murray wins two easily and you need to sweep the other 3 again. Switzerland is pretty tough too although I think in the next year or so Milos will pass Fed. Their 1-2 punch is so tough though.
Anybody else on that list and Milos can beat their top guy IMO.
The big thing for next year is whether or not Nestor retires.

Who would've dreamed that Canada would be playing in the SF and not only that, but playing well and taking it so far. Hopefully we can develop some of our younger guys and can start really contending like this on a regular basis. If we had another top 20 guy, we'd be a powerhouse.
I'm just saying that I wouldn't be overly confident walking around chanting "Canada" while fully decked out in Canadian colors on the streets of an Eastern European city. Of course Tennis is different than soccer but still.

No, as a Canadian, at least in Serbia, you would be fine. Now, if you were say Croatian, Bosnian...yeah, I recommend you don't do that (and vice versa in Bosnia, and especially Croatia).
How old is Pospil? I think he's got potential to be a Top 20 player.

Just turned 23 a couple months back. The thing is watching him over the last few years is that he comes out in one tournament and looks like a future top 10 player and then the next tournament loses to some Brazilian ranked 250th in the first round almost purely on unforced errors.
He has all the physical tools to be as good if not better than Milos but he's still got a ways to go mentally. One more ATP semi or final would do a lot for his confidence and ranking.

Still he's youngish. Not gonna be a top 10 (imo), but anywhere between 15-25. Still good though.

I saw this, from 3 hours ago.

Pospisil: "I heard some pops, which isn't good. My ankle is swollen... The fact I was able to walk out of there is a good thing."

Pospisil says the tears post-match were from the disappointment of losing, not the pain from his ankle issue.

Pretty good news - MRI revealed no tears and Vasek should be back playing within 7-10 days if rehab goes well.

probably for the best he take some rest. He was going to play a crazy schedule to end the year capitalizing on his high ranking. He only has 81 points to defend the rest of the year.
It was going to be
Kuala Lumpur 250
Beijing 500
Shanghai 1000
Vienna 250
Basel 500
Paris 1000
6 weeks in a row.
He'll have to sit out KL which kind of sucks because it's a weak field and he got 45 points there last year but it may help down the road.

Here's the entire draw (home team listed first)
Czech Rep. vs Netherlands
Japan vs Canada
Germany vs Spain
France vs Australia
USA vs Great Britain
Argentina vs Italy
Kazakhstan vs Belgium
Serbia vs Switzerland
Some interesting ones, definitely USA vs GB. Also Serbia vs Switzerland, will Roger play?

Bernard Tomic's hitting partner wrote up a diary of his seven months in hell as an employee of the Tomic family, and it's causing quite the stir in the tennis community...an example of the sports parent gone horribly wrong:
Part 1:
http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/...-1226719297918
Sample:
Quote:
THE Tomics arrive in Monaco and I must pick them up at Nice airport at my own expense.
Bernard, meanwhile, had partied like crazy after the Australian tournament season and when he comes back he has lost 2-3kg of muscles.
Salva and I see him, and "Oh my god, who is this?"
Bernard doesn't want to do anything now. Salva fights to get him to do sprints. I watch as they go to this long track near the courts. Bernard runs like he is at a marathon, just a slow jog. Mr 50 per cent. He is like a zombie.
|
Part 2:
http://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/...-1226719484382
Sample:
Quote:
John again says that practice is over and tells me to put my rackets in the bag. Bernard tells me to stay but John again tells me practice is over. I'm standing there not sure what to do. John tells Bernard if he doesn't want to listen then he will not play. Bernard comes to the net and John is screaming at him and Bernard answers back and tells him again to sit on the bench and not talk.
John is furious and then - pow! One punch. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, right there just in front of me. Bernard doesn't say anything but has tears in his eyes. John walks away and rests two rackets on an angle against the wall then snaps his foot down on them breaking them. Crack, crack - breaks both rackets and tells Bernard that he doesn't play tournaments now for three weeks and tells me to cancel all the flight tickets. Bernard sees this and then breaks his racket. My God, these people, it's crazy.
|
some of us on here have expressed disdain for Bernard because he is a lazy spoiled brat, but there is a reason behind all of it and he deserves some sympathy to an extent. but I still won't cheer for him or anything.

Reading that was...surreal. Drouet went through hell, that's for sure. The younger Tomic seems brainwashed by his father, but you often wonder, can't a grown man just walk away? I guess when someone has been controlling you like that all your life, what can you do? Crazy stuff.
This is story is similar to what happened to Jelena Dokic.

Though Kei Nishikori is one of my favorite players on tour, he has played like a bag of milk this year and it's remarkable he is still holding the ranking he is. Lets hope that carries over a bit longer I suppose.

Andy Murray expected to have back surgery and miss the remainder of the season, including World Tour Finals. Hope to be ready by Australian Open and Davis Cup.

Pospisil got the #7 seed at the 250 in Malaysia this week, Ferrer and Wawrinka are the two top guys there.
Didn't get an easy draw though, Hanescu from Romania in the first round is a former 26th overall, currently 63rd, close to Vasek's ranking and I think it will be a battle.
Milos is the 3rd seed in Thailand, got a bye into the second round... easy points there.

He's defending a 500 event win in a couple weeks (Raonic was the finalist, so he's got some points to hold onto as well), and had a win at the start of this year. Those two wins are pretty much keeping him afloat.

Good day for Peliwo. He won his first pro title today: $15,000 Mayfair National Bank Futures at Mayfair Parkway in Toronto. Phil Bester was his opponent today, but he had to pull out of the final because he got food poisoning. Peliwo will be the the top 250 for the first time once the new rankings are released.
