Reducing the amount of money gifted to Hulsizer, and to be recovered by bonds sales, doesn't make the bonds any more attractive to buyers. They would still be asked to purchase bonds that are being sold under threat of suit. In the municipal bond marketplace, why would a buyer risk suit?

No.

Bettman is a spokesman for the NHL governors.

Yeah, those small market Canadian teams really don't contribute anything to the league. What a dissapointing attitude.

the only thing that killed the team was improper marketing........

anyways, in light of the news that the NHL has supposedly reduced it's asking price has anyone checked groupon or anotehr site to see if there is some type of coupon out there for 15% off the purchase of an NHL franchise?

The quote I was thinking of had to do with US owners not wanting to lose the (non-existent) PHO TV market, and a fear of trying to sell tickets for a visiting small market Canadian team.

I agree it is an unfortunate attitude, as Canada is the beating heart of hockey.

The sooner the Phoenix mess is dealt with the sooner the Jets can come back either from Arizona or Atlanta. This gong show needs to end fast.

Keep pushing your hatred, Vulcan.
To me and others it's pretty obvious and doesn't require any hatred but keep pushing your mislead agenda.

Glendale mayor rejects idea to partner with tribe on Coyote
http://www.azcentral.com/community/glendale/articles/2011/04/27/20110427glendale-mayor-rejects-idea-partner-tribe-phoenix-coyotes-deal.html

Potential Coyotes buyer Matthew Hulsizer, who attended last week's meeting, wasn't opposed to the tribe's casino plans.

"I'd love it if the Indian tribe could come in," he said. "If the Indian tribe wants to put in a casino, we have no issue with that, officially."

City Council members Phil Lieberman and Norma Alvarez plan to meet with Goldwater officials next week.

Lieberman said he asked to attend last week's meeting but the mayor said they could not attend because the whole council would have to be invited.

Alvarez and Lieberman, who oppose the city's deal with Hulsizer, stirred a tempest with their plan to meet separately with Goldwater.

Can't believe this is still dragging on - who would have thought that the NHL and a local city would be willing to subsidize a losing business so heavily and just refuse to walk away, it's one of the most stubborn things I've ever seen.

Socialized sports franchises = the way of the future?

Half is not enough. The only panic now is the CoG trying to get an AHL franchise for next September.

NHL return close but not time to call party planners yet

http://www.winnipegsun.com/2011/04/2...y-planners-yet

The realistic among us will take the latest from the rumour mill with a huge grain of salt and remember when the announcement of a team was supposed to happen on March 4, 2010, shortly after the end of the Olympics.

Everybody in the city knew somebody who knew somebody who knew for a fact this was going to happen.

People were angry with the Winnipeg Sun when we said we weren’t planning to cover the fictional press conference.
I’m not saying there won’t be an announcement this week.

Anything’s possible in this crazy story that has consumed us all for so long.
What we do know is that we’re closer than ever to seeing an NHL team move to Winnipeg. There is a ready and willing ownership group which has done all the leg work and preparation necessary to bring a team here on short notice.

The fact that a team could move here is no longer in question. It’s just a matter of which team becomes available and when.

It looks pretty good that it will happen soon, but there are still no guarantees.

NHL, Hulsizer tweak deal to purchase Coyotes

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle2000136/

While no one involved in the talks was willing to divulge any details, it appears the changes involve Hulsizer increasing the amount of money he and his partners will put into the purchase and the NHL reducing its asking price of $170-million (all currency U.S.) or defer payment of the full price. In turn, this would allow the suburban city of Glendale to reduce the amount of the $116-million municipal bond sale that is to provide Hulsizer with much of the purchase price, perhaps by as much as half, to less than $60-million.

One source said it could only be “a few days” before the success or failure of the latest 11th-hour attempt to prevent the Coyotes from moving to Winnipeg will be known.

However, a lawyer for the Goldwater Institute, a privately-funded government watchdog group, said that unless the revised deal addresses the institute’s main concerns it will not back off from its promise to block the bond sale in court.

“If they are going to get significantly more private financing and they are going to restructure the [management] fees, we would have to re-examine our position.”

If it goes through it's still not going to solve the attendance issues, which cannot be ignored. As much as you don't like to hear this, economies are just that much more healthy in Canada right now. A new owner in Phoenix doesn't mean people will start flocking to the games.

There's bigger issues at stake here than just a new source of cash (which Hulsizer can't pay in full anyways. A bad omen).

When are the people of Winnipeg going to realize that there are more people in important places that don't likem than ones that do lol!

I've said it many times.

IF THE NHL SAW WINNIPEG AS A PROFITABLE HOCKEY HAVEN, A TEAM WOULD HAVE BEEN THERE BY NOW.

When is the user known as "lvsteven" going to realise that this whole forum regards him as nothing more than a common troll and therefore doesn't care how many times previously he's said something.

Especially since this is also the guy who thinks a franchise in Las Vegas will be economically viable and that Calgary has worse crime.

I could care what some Internet user thinks of me, nor should you care what I think of you.

Btw... I'm not exactly uncultured las Vegas born ignoramus of all things hockey. I'm born and raised in Canada.

Having a team in Winnipeg would be a fun novelty but after that wears out who says they can compete and stay in the leauge for the long run.

Businesses do not open locations where there is no profit.

But you can keep on dreaming of that. Hey maybe we can out teams in Regina and St. Johns newfondland while were at it!

After all, they love hockey there as much as anywhere in Canada, right?
