According to Darren Dreger on TSN, sources inside the negotiations said to expect a resolution within ten days.

I dont even care what the resolution is. Just finish this nonsense. It's embarrassing the NHL.

Sure, except that the better business decision sans social assistance is to move the team to a place where people actually pay money to watch the product.
And yes, using taxpayers money to buy a team is social assistance for a billionaire and in my opinion, wrong. You want the team, spend your own money. The NHL deserves to get sued and deserves to lose should they follow through with this circus.
And honestly I'm not sure, I think the NHL is afraid to be proven wrong (even though they already have). But let's keep banking on "market potential", even when it doesn't exist.

They can't sue the NHL. They'd be suing the City of Glendale.

Man I'm really legitimately starting to hate them. Their arrogance knows no bounds, they are like a hydra or something.
The NHL head office = a bunch of clowns. I hope so badly this blows up in their face.
It's sports you dipsticks, give the game back to the people that care about it. Screw your dreams of global conquering.
|
They'd get sued over? Looks like you need to go back to page one of this thread, the NHL isn't going to be sued over anything out of this deal.

Sounds like what they said last year too, and it came down to an emergency meeting. I'll believe it when the definitive announcement is made that the team is staying or going.

I would personally guess the week starting May 23rd we would have answer before end of day Friday.
Just my guess.

As I mentioned here this past weekend, it could happen as soon as two Fridays from now (May 6) but the drop dead "week" would be that following week (May 9 to 13). I can't see it going past May 13. At the very least the ultimatum would have to be issued that week.

We've already heard that announcement. Isn't that how this thread got started in the first place?

Interesting that Goldwater's initial stance tended to focus on the legality of the bond sales, but now have seemingly backpedaled a bit, indicating that if the numbers are adjusted they'd have to take another look.
Also interesting is the NHL's claim that the GWI's vocal presence has substantially cooled off the bond sale, but that they themselves have not considered them a factor as to whether to move forward or not. I personally don't buy that, but that's just me.

It is hard to see how the 97 million management fee can be seen as anything other than a gift, somewhat inflated from the 2.5 million the contract is worth.

Who cares if they have a new owner? It's the fans that need to show up, and so far, for the most part, they haven't.
Why in the world is the NHL so adamant about having a team there? You'll get more people in a smaller stadium in Winnipeg. Isn't that what you want? It'd be much healthier to have the team there.
Einstein coined the definition of insanity of doing the same thing, over and over and expecting different results. Why does having a potential new owner (who can't use his own money, but I digress) suddenly mean more fans will come to the games?
Pushing hockey in the southern States has got to be a personal mission for Bettman now. I don't know why he keeps trying this experiment.

we have venom because we have cities that love hockey, its out favorite sport, yet the league is more interested in putting teams in cities where we rank less then high school football.
See it from our point of view, we enjoy watching Canadian teams play Canadian teams, just ten years ago with the state of the league we almost lost Calgary Edmonton and Ottawa, so yes we will spill venom.

I think the venom is more directed at the seeming insanity of trying to make it work in the desert when all evidence, says it won't work. What makes it worse for Phoenix is if the team moves, it's going back to Canada. You use to live in Calgary, surely you can see the Canadian side of the issue.
As mentioned this has become another personal issue for Bettman and I believe it's clouding his judgment, just as his hatred for Goodenow got him relieved from his negotiation position with the NHLPA agreement.

The average viewing figures for the local broadcast Coyotes games was 9,000 per game this year, if you took all the people at the game, and all the people watching it on TV it still wouldn't be a sell out!

To be perfectly blunt, only a complete moron would actually believe 29 groups of very rich men would allow their employee to risk their money over a personal grudge.
Keep pushing your hatred, Vulcan.
