This seems ridiculous, what affect would being grounded have on car sickness? Also, your car is always grounded unless it's airborne. The whole rubber tires keeping you insulated idea is a myth.

I'm not so sure about that one? If its a myth its a really well known and thought out myth though. I know that if your car gets struck by lightning the faraday cage effect and it being insulated help you though.
Any link/info you have to show that this is a myth?

- Will the rubber tires on my bicycle/car protect me during a thunderstorm? No the rubber tires won’t protect you. If you are on a cycling trip, plan ahead and keep an eye on the weather. You may have to end your day early in order to stay safe from a thunderstorm. If you are on your bike at the start of a thunderstorm, quickly get to a safe location, and then stay there for 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder.
A car’s tires do not help insulate the car. Lightning will flash over the frame of the car and not hurt any one inside the vehicle. However, electronic equipment may be damaged in the car. That is why you shouldn’t touch anything metal or electrical inside the vehicle.

Rubber tires will certainly insulate a car, but not against a lightning strike; I don't think there are many materials that effectively insulate an object from a direct lightning strike.
The insulation from tires can lead to the buildup of static electricity though and I believe that's what those hanging things are supposed to prevent. Not sure if they work though.

If I were to hire a contractor to install hardwood floors, do I have to be home when they perform the work?

I didn't say it was rational but that is the reason why some people do it.

No, but you'll need a way to let them in the house.

If they are bonded you can lock box it.

When we did renovations, we installed an old deadbolt on one door and gave a key for that. When they were done, I just changed the lock back and no worries about break ins or having to get the whole house re-keyed.
You should probably be there to check the work though, at least on the first day to make sure they lay the boards out along the desired orientation and whatever else you expect them to do.

I think one of my good friends might be depressed or having some sort of issue. Basically he used to be a pretty vibrant, very social and high energy guy. Now he almost never comes out and when he does he always leaves early, even if it's sort of rude, and is restless the whole time.
His girlfriend seems to be great and is generally up beat and still very social. This weekend a friend had some people over and she came while he stayed home. Later, he came and picked her up without telling anyone and didn't even come in to say hello. He is always complaining about being tried and just generally has less energy then in the past.
Has anyone every experienced something like this? Am I blowing things out of proportion?

Withdrawal and lack of enjoyment of people and activities that previously were enjoyable are indicators of depression. Have you, and / or his other good friends, talked to him or is that the exclusive job of some kind of health care worker?

My friends and I would have no issue confronting him about his behavior, my only concern is that I am reading too much into the situation and by suggesting he might be depressed will only alienate him further.

I wouldn't say anything about depression. Doctors, if necessary, can go clinical on his ass. And I wouldn't confront either. It'd probably be better to talk to him somewhere he's at ease and focus on the things (behaviours) that you've already noted. Non-judgemental and a little concerned is how I'd play it. He needs to know you care enough to ask. I'd initiate a casual chat with GF too.

Supermarkets used to be the place to go for boxes. I don't know if that's still the case.

Liquor stores and grocery stores (specifically apple boxes from Superstore or Safeway). Get there first thing in the morning.

Try going to the grocery stores. They just let us help ourselves.
EDIT: beaten to it twice

I saw the post then pressed "QUOTE" before reading the newer ones. I should really stop doing that.
