I have heard similar things from different local guys all season long so it isn't really that far fetched. Everything being said there has been said for the past two years about Rios.
Also, considering how crappy the local guys are I am not surprised that they haven't reported anything while ESPN has.

Which is really too bad, becuase League has the stuff to be an aboslute force in the bigs. He just needs a better head on his shoulders. His stuff when he is on is virtually unhittable. He came in against the Yankees he made Swisher and Arod both look foolish and those are two damn good hitters.

I think a guy who consistantly puts up over 20 hrs and 70 or more RBIS is a pretty darn good hitter. I wasn't putting him on Arods level, but I'd say Swisher is a fair bit beter the "meh".

Well I think the signing deadline for players from the first year draft has passed and it looks like the Jays only signed 2 of their top 5 picks.
http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/news...=.jsp&c_id=tor
Paxton who was a Canadian guy and Boros client doesn't look to have signed. If Baseball owners want to ever give all teams a chance at being competitive they'll do well to put in standardized contracts for drafted players. Of the 12 unsigned first rounders from earlier today, half of them were Boros clients, including the top 3 guys.

Looks like lots of teams had a tough time signing picks (i.e. other MLB sites were showing the list of unsigned players).
Jays however were able to sign their first round selection. I believe the Jays get supplemental picks for two of out of the three players who were not signed.

Yeah, the agent for those first rounders is asking for exhorbant deals for kids that have proven nothing. The first over all pick got a 12 million 4 year deal. Although he IS supposed to be the best pitching prospect to come around in a while.

He is pretty meh for a corner outfielder.
He might hit for 20+ HRs, but he also only hits 25 doubles. Because of this, he's never slugged over .500 and is consistently around .450. Combine that with below average defense as a corner OFer and you're a pretty average player.
It's funny - his OPS the last 3 years is as follows: .864, .836, .743. Basically identical to Alex Rios (only without the defense).
Whoever made that post ripping Moneyball conveniently forgot one of the biggest topics of the entire book - the greek god of walk Kevis Youkillis.

Swisher is a BRUTAL fielder. Countless times this year I've seen him muff balls in RF.

Looks like a lot of draft picks got paid well above the MLB reccommended slot value. Is this more teams getting on board with spending more on young players and prospects and trying to get away from signing veteran free agents. Or is it teams just spending money. I think this winter a lot of veteran free agents looking for a big pay day are going to find it tough to get that big money multi year deal. Teams are committing more of their budget to the younger guys.

That is my favorite baseball nickname, based solely on the fact that he is Jewish.
EDIT: of Romanian descent

The speculation out there is as follows;
Blue Jays have called up Travis Snider and optioned Joe Inglett to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Didn't they want to wait so his contract wouldn't lose the extra year of arbitration eligibility?
Sounds like another "I don't care about the future" move by JP...

They were waiting until he would not be eligible for Super 2 free agency, and (I assume) they waited long enough that it's fine.

I guess it was me who made the post "ripping" Moneyball, when all I did is point out that it hasn't ever been shown to work.
Youkillis is a guy (walks and all) that would be a very good player on any team or any system. To me using him as an example that Moneyball works is crap as he could be used as an example that any system works because is a very good player period.
