So maybe they aren't the worst team ever as this thread would have had you believe early in the season...

I said it about a week ago but it remains true, ever since Santander left the lineup the Jays have been dialled. Probably part coincidence but removing that black hole from the batting lineup has helped for sure .

Sure but it's taken an 8-2 record (and a solid 14-6 the last 20) to get to the a wild card slot for a team that has a payroll that should be in the playoffs.

Kirk, Barger and George have all stepped up this past few weeks, while Vladdy and Santander have been average or below.

Happy most for the SP (minus 1), who are playing well, and, who are getting the run support they didn't last year.

Desperately need to move on from the 2-8 starter with the 6.12 ERA for the time being.

I think this is probably the end of the line for Francis - if he pitches poorly his next start he's going to AAA and someone else gets that spot. Because right now it sure looks like the Jays would be better with Paxton Schultz making those starts.

Would be inconvenient to have someone who could only play at home (so a starting pitcher is the only positions this works for).
Or maybe you use the situation more on the reputational front. Help Andy Pages get his family into Canada since they can't get out of Cuba into the USA. Maybe that helps get Pages or someone else to sign as a FA, even just getting a few players from any club to live in Toronto in the offseason would be a win.

But the Yankees payroll is even higher...so they are also in need of a playoff spot...and there is only one divisional spot for the two teams.

And either way they are in the playoffs - Wild Card spot or not.

In the end the team still has its flaws for sure (still don't trust the offense) but all the hyperbole earlier this season about them being the worst team ever and the worst team money could buy was so overblown.

They are a good but not great team that has to overpay people at times because they aren't the Dodgers or Yankees.

I don't agree with that. I'm glad they got hot and hope it continues, but wins in May count the same as wins in September.

I would rather get hot at the end of the year though and hope it carries through to the playoffs.

While you don't win the WS in the first two months, you can definitely play yourself out of a chance.

I understand the sentiment. But tell the Baltimore Orioles that. They're so far behind the 8 ball that they're cooked before the summer even began.

The Braves as well. I would have had them as a contender for the playoffs, but they're at the point they should sell at the deadline.

Well the club's proven they can go on a heater. Now they just need to avoid cratering with a 2-8 over 10 games. .500 ball and the occasional hot streak looks very do-able for the team as is.

It'd be nice if the FO could pull off a trade for a decent SP right now before they wear out the stellar BP.

Plus I don't trust Sherzer's thumb or Manoahs spotty performance history.

The big ass pile of prospects that are performing right now should be enough to make a solid trade package for a decent mid rotation arm.

I thought Civale may have been an option for the Jays. Maybe the Brewers just wanted to punish him by sending him to the White Sox.

I'd rather the Jays aim higher. Civale hasn't been very good.
