Vanity like a car wash should take the backseat in a water crisis. Every little bit helps.

How is Cliff supposed to enjoy a negroni in his back yard if the grass isn't watered? Have some empathy.

You mean our expense lol. The prices will somehow be sticky afterwards too.

Eh, they’re not strictly vanity. But the people washing their cars weekly or more can probably chill out for a month or two.

It’s not like they’re closing garden centres either.

I think you're right.

Yeah, my understanding is that Car Washes use largely non-potable and recycled water and as such aren't straining the system so its largely a non-issue.

I think we all know what it looks like, but the issue for residents is largely potable, treated water.

Which kind of makes me think, I know all household water is potable, but maybe we should consider having non-potable water available to be hooked up to homes for things like pressure-washing your house, washing your car or watering your lawn, etc.

You dont need potable, treated essentially 'drinking water' to water your lawn with.

Just dont drink from the Garden Hose.

It is a nice thought, but the infrastructure required to get it to everyone's homes, with adequate pressure, would be massively expensive. We really don't need to be watering lawns, or even flushing toilets, with "drinking water".

The most practical solution is to capture rainwater in barrels and tanks, which many do. Next would be capturing, storing, and re-using "grey water". But even that requires a fair bit of desire and action from end users, home builders, etc.

Then there's still the issue of pressurizing or pumping it.

ugh

I read that as you running the same dishes through a load twice.

Idiot

I’ve scrupulously followed all of the watering restrictions, while enjoying many negronis (and beer) on my deck over the summer. Did give the back yard a good watering on Sunday - not really for the lawn itself, but more for the benefit of the apple trees, the mountain ash, and my wife’s perennials.

What about a sensible chuckle? Surely you didn’t forget to mix in a few of those.

Just planted some new trees, I'll be out there with the hose for sure. Lots of my neighbours out with the hose today as well. I feel the city has lost the support of its citizens on this one. At least in my area.

I'll also be top dressing and overseeding before it ends.

Text blast would be a good idea in this case.
I had Aug 29 in my head, too.

This is the exact sort of thing where a single beep emergency alert would be great instead of the panic alarm

I thought they started today for some reason, so used a lot of water yesterday to get ready. Sure felt silly when I realised I used all that water on restriction day one, haha

I wonder if they planned to wait a couple days after going Stage 1 to fully top up the reservoirs as much as possible before shutting off the big pipe?
