I for one won't be a sheeple and blindly follow government orders like the plandemic and I will be sure to go all over social media and announce my intentions instead of just shutting the F up and quietly disobeying orders which would generally go unnoticed. /s

Based on the number of lawns being watered this morning on my walk I’m guessing buy in is a lot less this time around.

Yeah I genuinely think some of my neighbors are watering their grass out of spite.
These will of course be the first people to complain about a boil water advisory.

Who knows? Maybe people aren't even paying attention. When did the restrictions start? Yesterday? Today? I thought Thursday for some reason. I don't listen to the radio or watch the news. My YouTube is ad free. Quit reading the Calgary Herald app once you had to pay.
Text blast would be a good idea in this case.

We might get the emergency alert pushed to all of our phones at some point. I'd prefer to not boil water over the winter.

We totally should. I get fricken alerts for abducted kids 700kms away at 3am that I can do nothing about. This affects literally every Calgarian. If restrictions have started, blast out some communication. I honestly don't know where I'm supposed to have heard whether or not restrictions have started.

Restrictions aside from Stage 1 or whatever we were on before which was pretty wide open didn't start until Monday. Looks like there was a Sunday spike before restrictions started as everyone watered their gardens, lawn, etc one last time.

Agreed that I've heard next to nothing about the restrictions coming into place - without CP I'm not sure I would have heard otherwise (maybe my parents mentioned it to me in passing?). I guess they are hoping for word of month at work this week?
I think compliance will be a lot less, but that will be offset by outdoor usage. The need to water grass and gardens is virtually zero at this point (despite people continuing to do it). With much less need for outdoor watering, a more modest reduction indoors will probably get the job done.
If it gets dire, I'm pretty sure an emergency notification will be sent out. Can't see a boil water advisory showing up without a final call for help.

Is the water usage going to delay the repairs though? Like some of you saying we'll be boiling water all winter seem to imply that if we take too many 5 minute showers that they can't fix the pipe, which doesn't seem to make sense. I don't know much about the water system though, so maybe there's a reason I'm not aware of?

From the CBC article yesterday:
During a media conference on Monday morning, the city's director of capital priorities and investment, Francois Bouchart, said maintaining adequate water pressure is essential for keeping Calgary's water safe to drink.
"If we consistently exceed our target of 450 million litres, this means we risk running out of water and must enter a citywide boil-water advisory," Bouchart told reporters.
"If we don't reduce our water use and demand exceeds what the system can produce, the underground water storage reservoirs will eventually run dry, leading to drop in water pressure."

I said it before and I'll say it again.
Cut off the parasites.
Sorry Airdrie, Strathmore, Balzac, Okotoks, and the rest. You're on your for now. Calgary has to look out for Calgary!

I know fotze works for a Company with a lot of industrial pumping equipment.
Lets just dunk a few of those bad boys in Moraine Lake, attach a big hose and refill our reservoirs.
Problem sorted.
Locke for Mayor!!

Doesn't really answer Slava's question. What does a repair that should be wrapped up at the end of September have to do with boiling water in the winter? If anything wouldn't a boil-water advisory happen during the repairs and for a little while after until the reservoirs fill back up?

Okay, I'm guilty of using waaay too much water yesterday. I'm clearly not the only one who had no clue restrictions had started. I had the world's longest shower...just stood there taking it in. Ran the dishwasher twice to wash all the dishes I had used because I decided to bake cookies. Did random laundry loads that could have waited (thought I was getting ahead of upcoming restrictions).
Unless they're going to tell each and every one of us we're currently under water restrictions we're going to be wasting a lot of water.
So fkn dumb. Send out a text. I'm happy to follow the rules if I know there are rules.

I think if we get too low they let untreated water into the system to keep things pressurized, so we get stuck with boiling water as a result.

Not that i care as it relates to water restrictions (I had no idea they were back), but why do you need to run your dishwasher twice?

Generated a lot of dishes?
Two full loads. Four people, breakfast, lunch, supper, plus I made cookies, so that generated extra dishes.
We often run the dishwasher twice a day.
Also basically have an extra kid or two permanently at my house. I cook for six every supper because one or both of my kids always has a friend over.
