I forgot that federal tax dollars are only used to build schools and hospitals, my bad.

I wonder if this result would motivate Nenshi to get involved in provincial politics? It just seems this is as far as things will go with Notley leading the NDP in this province.

Mods need to close this thread. Sense of safety is gone and it’s no longer a safe space for political dialogue. I guess the bigots got what they wanted. Just reverted straight back to far right talking points.

The federal Equalization program was designed from the outset to ensure that all Canadians, regardless of where they live, receive comparable levels of public service. Healthcare and education are -- by far -- the two largest expenditures of every provincial government.

Tough to say. While I think a new leader(if a good one emerges) would be good for the party, it’s tough to discount their gains in seats as nothing considering the province that we live in and some of the prejudices people hold against the party.

I just think Nenshi doesn't have the anti-O&G baggage of Notley. It seems like the NDP at least gained a bit of momentum and a more supportable leader may be the tipping point.

Well it's not surprising, the whole conservative ethos boils down to "#### you, I got mine"

Explain how “Are most conservatives convinced Canada has gotten significantly worse over the last 8 years?” is passive aggressive.

And then just answer the question. It doesn’t require an essay.

Do you think Canada has gotten better or worse under Trudeau?

A. Better
B. Worse

When someone brought up lying and incompetence in relation to Smith, you said we already have it in Trudeau and Canada survived. So, I’m asking, over the time he’s been PM do you think Canada has gotten better or worse?

For someone who is desperate to make it very clear that he doesn’t care what anyone thinks, you are paying a ton of attention and giving a lot of air time to what other people think under the weak guise of “entertainment.” You shouldn’t care so much. It doesn’t matter as much as you’re making it out to matter.

Considering the softball of an opportunity they were lobbed, I thought the NDP did a pretty crappy job marketing themselves in this election.

They basically spent their entire time obsessed with Smith, and spent almost nothing on promoting their own platform or vision for the future. Attacking Smith was a legitimate tactic, but the myopic focus on it came across as kinda obsessive and insecure (the complete saturation of airwaves and cheeseball scary 90s video-effects didn't help). Danielle Smith is a known entity. How many minds are you actually going to sway at this stage? You either care or you don't. Was it really worth throwing 99% of your budget at it?

If you're a party looking to present yourself as the professional/sane choice to the moderates of our province...well, then consider demonstrating those qualities. Or at the very least tell them your vision for the future. Or clear up misunderstandings/myths about your party. They NDP did almost none of that in their advertising...they just focused on Smith. In the end they seemed to do a decent job of converting people in the cities, so perhaps their strategy worked just fine, but I think considering the context, they could've done better.

This thread sure is something special.

UCP voters that mainly post in the Flames side of the forum, carrying over the sports style posting and treating this like a WCF win and being a poor sport on the enemy teams board.

And somehow in 2023 others still don't know the purpose or function of equalization.

Truly in the times where some people are happy about an outcome of an election purely based on how angry the other side is. I wonder if some even voted with this purpose in mind.

Closing the thread is unlikely to change that. Fact of the matter is you’re gonna run into people who disagree with your politics in a childish manner anywhere you go regardless of your views or how you approach the discussion. Not letting it affect your approach is about the only thing in your control.

Please do close the thread. Some of the NDP supporters continue to call anybody that doesn’t follow the same views as them bigots.

I don’t feel safe here.

This thread went off the rails 40 pages ago when people were challenged to "take the higher ground and refrain from pettiness". That seemed to piss everyone off.

Sure, but everyone knows about the equalization program and can consider it and it's effects before moving.
