Pearson lifetime in the minors has like 2.4/9 walk rate. He’s never had precision control but walking batters is not his issue there. However in the majors it is big time and yeah that points to a problem between his ears. I really love how fans are like “I can’t believe they didn’t bring this guy up from the minors” and then when they do it’s “I can’t believe they didn’t leave him down longer to master his craft”. Like pick a side please. I am of the mind he’s not going to learn much more in the minors. He’s already 24. Stick him under Walkers tutelage and let him work with him. If they can fix Ray so he goes 3 starts without a walk then they can fix Pearson. I do think he should’ve used mostly like they use Trenton now, as a 2-3 inning guy.

IMO they just need to keep trotting him out there and he will find his comfort zone. Just my opinion.

Yup. He just needs big league innings IMO. He has to learn to trust his stuff. When he was in the zone (not often tonight) they generally didn’t hit it. He’ll get there. Too much talent not to.

LOL, Jesus Christ.
The jump from AAA to the bigs is huge. Some guys take a little time to make it. Some guys are just unlucky. Others get perfect situations and make the jump look easy (for a while).
But judging young players and labeling them with no toolbox, this early in their careers is beyond laughable.
Seriously, come on.

It happens, Pearson obviously was struggling with his control.
However he will find it and take the next step.
Pearson has a great arm, just going to take some time
My biggest concern is why are the Jays having so many injuries and George Springer situation looks bad on the Jays medical staff. I would not be shocked if he is out for a month

I have a simple take on Nate’s situation. I think most agree that it’s a confidence issue. So why not keep him in the minors to dominate while he’s injury free then bring him up when he has that confidence? I understand there was little to no choice given the injuries on the team but he’s clearly a guy who needs the building up of confidence. He’ll get that in the minors. Or you bring him in I’m a favourable matchup game. In hindsight, bringing him against a legend was a gamble against what it would do for him. Certain guys can work it out at the major league level. I think those guys are probably the more heard headed ones. Nate seems like he needs a little bit of a softer touch and I think you get that in AAA. Just my personal opinion on this.

Because confidence in the minors is useless. He has a weapon (throw 99 mph fastball down the middle) that works in AAA just fine. Remember most teams historically keep their best hitters in AA, AAA generally is a mix of post hype prospects and AAAA types. So there is no minor league he can go to and play the best of not in the majors. AAA has too many AAAA guys in it and AA has too many young players mixed in with the stars. So he can go down there and be dominant because no one there can do much about it. He can’t do that in the majors because batters can absolutely square up that straight fastball and crush it. Sure you can send him down and force him to not use his fastball and rework his sequencing/work on secondaries but I don’t see why he can’t just do that in the majors. It’s not like he doesn’t have the secondaries he just doesn’t need to use them to beat AAA opponents.

I think bringing him up when he had only one start with 3.2 innings after an injury wasn't putting him in a position for success. I know there is pressure on the team to use the kid but they might need a little bit of patience. The decision to rush him up instead of starting Kay, like the Springer return, seems in hindsight like a short-sighted decision.

Could be confidence but I think it's just consistency. Due to injuries Pearson just hasn't thrown much at all the last 2 years and didn't even throw 20 innings last year. I would just want the kid to pitch and pitch in a situation where if he is off, which I think should be expected, he doesn't get roughed up immediately or cost the team wins. That would just seem to snowball on him IMO and doesn't really set him up for success.
he's also every thrown 18 Innings in AAA so I'm not sure why he should be considered past that league.

Well that's a quick way to destroy a young mans confidence. He got thrown to the wolves against the Astro's, who are up to their old shady tricks with pitch selection, and now back to the minors. I Don't like it. I'd give him another start and see how he does. I mean, he's easily better than any other alternatives the rotation currently has.

I think it's probably the right decision now given they made the wrong call to bring him up when they did. He showed a flaw in his delivery (he was dipping his head so he wasn't looking at home when the ball was released - probably trying to throw too hard) and I think it is good to get that sorted out and build his confidence back with some triple-A innings.

Damn, that sucks. Team needs starting pitching badly, it would have been nice if Pearson could have taken the bull by the horns.
Hopefully he and Manoah can continue to dominate AAA and make their way up here later on then.

Ray gives up too many homers lol
He's such a machine when he throws strikes. Damn near an ace really, but prone to giving up too many dingers.
10 Ks now through 6 innings, only 1 walk.
That's 33 K's against 1 BB over his last 24.2 innings.
But 7 goddamn homers lol
