Your friend is clueless.

Weegar is a non starter for me, even in a rebuild. I think he will be a guy who plays a loooong time, and is a mainstay.

Just going off the basis that Lindholm still wants out and the Flames still don't want to tear it down.

Nylander is a stud and while it would weaken the Flames down the middle (that's inevitable if Lindholm won't stay) Nylander across from Huberdeau might be an amazing fit.

While I think Nylander might be more valuable than Lindholm, it's debatable IMO and the difference between the two isn't a top pair defenceman in their prime.

Weegar is the most valuable asset in the Flames organization.

While I disagree, I actually can't think of anyone with more trade value, so i guess I don't.

He's got a decent contract and should age well.

Calgary doesn't really have a young player signed long term.

Weegar showed well at the world championship. I think he was Canada’s best player

The only trade that could see Calgary doing with Toronto is to take Taveras at 50% retained for future considerations. And that would be only if Lindholm moves somewhere and the Flames need a stopgap for two season while they draft/develop some centre options.

No interest in almost any Toronto players, under contract.

They could buy out Yamamoto though and sign a vet for league min similar to Lewis and not be any worse. But the will likely rush the prospect that isn't ready.
That has never stopped the Oilers before.

I should move this over to the Tre thread

EXACTLY my point about the Leafs over valuing their players

Weegar
Hanifin
Lindholm

2 of them! get the #### outta here

any 3 of these guys would be the biggest names on the market this summer considering contracts

He was drafted as a centre actually.

Between Dylan Holloway on the Oilers, and Juraj Slafkovsky on the Habs, who was more improperly rushed this year?

move a goalie or have Wolf move up and down with the Wrangler.

I don't see why it would be bad to have 3 goalies, especially since Wolf can go up and down without clearing waivers.

Goalies are voodoo, so you never know which one will get hot when you need them, see Vegas and Florida. All 3 of the Flames goalies could potentially do that.

Wolf also needs to play, if Marky is the starter, it's better for Wolf to play in the AHL then just sit on the bench and open the door.

In case of injury, its' always good to have NHL ready goalies, especially good goalies. You trade Vladar and one of Marky or Wolf get injured, and you are in trouble. Unless you have a 3rd goalie who is good, which most teams do not have.

I get the argument of not having veteran skaters preventing young skaters from making the team, but the goalie position is a little different. I think it's a great situation that Wolf doesn't have to clear waivers to go up and down and it's not like he has to travel either.

Unless the Flames get an incredible offer for Vladar, there is no point trading him.
