Hopefully Vegas trade their 25 1st overall before the trade deadline and we’re locked in for an unprotected pick in 26, that would be fantastic, hopefully Vegas is trash by then.

The trade is a touch underwhelming but I’m glad they’ve chosen this path and are cashing in their trade chips.

You always want more from a trade but at least we’re not bleeding picks for derpth defensemen like we did yearly with Bradley at the helm.

To me It was malpractice last trade deadline that Brad didn't even sell a little bit, when we all saw the 6 UFA situation approaching, and the acquiring teams would've had an extra year of control.

All the contenders were giving away their 2023 and even 2024 1sts, this is why Boston, Florida TB had no assets for Hanifin now. Brad preferred to sit on his hands, probably because he already knew he was quitting.

I'm a little underwhelmed with the return. That said, Huska's strength was always developing D. Conroy has sure given Huska a lot of options to replenish the blueline from within.

I'm glad to see another Russian in the organization, a D with size, that's a good skater and can shoot the puck. I have a hard time evaluating Mirmanov as a 26-year-old, because he switched to D relatively recently. IMO he has a very good offensive potential, while he still figures out the defensive side of things. He could be a good partner for Weegar for a couple of years.

I think there's a good chance that Miromanov turns into a good 4/5 D for the Flames for the next 2+ years.

Let us never forget Mikhail Vorobyov's several minutes with the Flames organization.

Treliving should not have been allowed to operate the 2023 deadline without an extension in place.

Yeah, and we gave up a 2nd to get him, meaning he wasn't worth garbage to us.

Tippett wasn't a garbage throw in. He was at least worth a 2nd conservatively, which I think supports the argument that Tippett bumped up the value of the Giroux return significantly.

The D component grinds my gears. After the last couple of trades loaded us up on D prospect depth, Hanifin was supposed to bring back a C prospect.

Now that we have him, I really hope Miromanov surprises us all in a good way but it will definitely grind my gears for a while.

Aside from that, I guess we will be cheering for Vegas to win a round to get us a 2nd and then do whatever ridiculous condition gets us that unprotected 1st in '26.

Treliving got raked over the coals for making that trade, starting about five minutes after it happened.

Hronek trade is actually a great comparable.

Same age, similar NHL effectiveness, Hronek RH shot which is higher value, Hanifin a bit more proven at the time of the trade, Hronek had 1.5 years left on his deal though.

Hronek had 9 goals and 38 points in 60 games at the time of the trade.

Hanifin has 11 goals and 36 points in 61 games at the time of the trade.

Hronek + 4th returned a 1st (Islanders) and 2nd

Hanifin returned a 1st, conditional 3rd and Miromanov.

So that's probably the direct comparable teams were using in this deal.

Even if his value was a second then he wasn’t a blue chip prospect

You mean you're glad the players forced them down this path. Toffoli requested a trade. Zadorov requested a trade. Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev were all offered contracts and didn't sign them.

Now let's just hope they're smart enough to fully commit to the path that was forced on them. Load up on picks and prospects, draft high for a few years, cross your fingers and hope for some luck.

Toffoli requested a trade only because Conroy did not offer him term, which was smart of Conroy. Zadorov was pretty much a nothingburger, though a tranche of fans loved him because it's fun to see guys go boom. The others I pretty much grant you.

I thought the Lindholm deal was a homerun so it seems fair if I'm a little more "meh" about this deal.
I still think Conny overall has had a good run with trades and the direction the team is taking. Holding the line of change, not losing assets for nothing and stockpiling a ton of picks.

I'm not really sure what to think about this trade yet. It sort of reminds me of when I was a kid and I really wanted to get some army men, but my mom wouldn't let me. So one day I snuck out and I got a bunch of army guys. And my mom got home and she absolutely hit the roof, because she really didn't expect me to do that. She expected me to do as I was told and be patient. So the next day was my birthday, and wouldn't you know it? She had got me a whole bunch of army guys. I got my gift but I didn't feel great about it because I knew I disappointed my mother.

So I may have disappointed my mom, but I suddenly had twice the size of army than what I expected! To be fair, my allowance wasn't really large enough to finance the running of an entire army division. Most of those guys were pretty good natured about the whole thing, even if they were just humouring me. They even all agreed to come with me to Europe and went so far as to bring all their equipment and stuff, so it was a pretty good time overall. It put me in debt several billion dollars, but I guess some people just can't say no to kids.

I don't know what this has to do with the Hanifin trade really, but at least I got to invade Luxembourg. I know of maybe three other kids who ever got to do that. And in the end, isn't that the real point? The friends we made along the way?

So I give the trade a solid 7.5/10 for now.

Who was it that said, earlier in the season, they hoped Conroy would get 15 assets for the pending UFAs?

After this trade, that's exactly what he got: 15 assets. He also made a couple of sneaky good waiver acquisitions. I don't consider that bad for his first year's work.

After the Flames wouldn't give them the money and term they wanted...its a pretty massive omission. And they didn't touch Lindholms ask

Agree

And I’ll say again, I think Hanifin was excellent value for dollar during his term here but don’t see the same on his next deal
