All this ownership hate has to stop. It's ####ing ridiculous. People are hired to get a job a done. PERIOD. This is Sutter's purview and no one else's. Murray Edwards doesn't manage the bench and doesn't set the game plan. Sutter #### the bed regardless of who hired him. The fact Treliving was given the greenlight to sack Sutter as part of the enticement for him to stay speaks volumes. This lands at Sutter's feet and no one else. If Treliving didn't have the sack to make the changes necessary, it's a good thing the weak sonofabitch is gone.

The power imbalance from extending Sutter and keeping Treliving without a contract 100% lies on Edwards IMO.
If you're going to extend Sutter, and Treliving is being non-committal then he should have fired Treliving before this season and brought in new long term solution at GM then.
Leaving Treliving as a lame duck GM this season is part of the problem IMO.

The owner hired the coach and took away the GM's ability to fire him how is this on Treliving?
This is the owners fault for hiring a coach that is incapable of getting the job done, one that has caused 2 players to leave 2 more mulling their futures in Calgary and a bunch more of according to reports explicitly asked for Sutter to be fired.

One weird thing in all this, and perhaps its because he just doesnt have his facts straight, is that the last 2 times I heard Seravalli talk on the subject, he made it sound like it was Treliving who approached Edwards about extending Sutter.

Bull. Treliving supposedly reached out to Sutter when Ward was hired, so it wasn't like he wasn't on board with Sutter coming back. The fact that part of the enticement for Treliving to return was the opportunity to sack Sutter tells me the Sutter hiring stuff is a red herring, especially when you consider the extension which happened on Treliving's watch. This Murray Edwards stuff is pure fan fiction.

They were having a great season. I bet he and Sutter got along fine then. even now, I'm betting any rift is overblown, like every other thing we imagine (owner meddling/player complaints/player decisions).

Yes
Probably the notion that Treliving wanted a break holds a decent amount of truth to it.

Dude has been in high level organized hockey since he was a 17 year old kid in the BCHL and then the Dub. Went straight from ECHL into minor league management and then to the Coyotes and Flames. 11 years in Phoenix and 9 in Calgary. Probably deserves a little time off.
It's funny having a peek at his db. Treliving has played with a lot of NHLers, and lot who ended up coaching/management.

Yeah, Treliving wanted Sutter for a while and the owners paid big bucks for him. If it is true that Treliving then wanted to fire Sutter during this season, it's hard to blame the owners for saying no to letting him pick another coach.
When you listen to Treliving talk about the Sutter hire, it sounds like it was 100% his decision.

And if I went back and looked what you had to say the day Sutter was hired?

You'd see I hated it and thought it was a massive mistake. Have been a critic of the move from the second it was suggested and even more so as it played out, even with last year's success. Sutter is a dinosaur.

Was reported in the media and talked about here. Maybe that's BS, but it would make sense seeing as how lost the team was in those areas of the game.

On the day Sutter was hired, I think I was probably hopeful he could turn the team around and get us back on track from where Ward had the team. But that enthusiasm from "getting back together with the old girlfriend" quickly fizzled as I remembered what terrible bitch she was and how bad a girlfriend she really was. So probably took two games before reality sunk in and I went full anti-Sutter and the crap hockey he brought back with him.

Come on man ...
Just call it a day ... that is as back peddled as it gets.
And maybe ease up on the over the top sermons when the history shows you have literally swapped sides on his hiring and who did the hiring.

NHL practices are so short I can imagine it wasn't done at least in regular season.
