The Pentagon was attacked too, right inside is certainly closer than blocks away.

I still don't understand yet why them building this 2 blocks away from the WTC site is disrespectful.

Does that facility have a basketball court? A cooking school? A 9/11 memorial? Prayer facilities for all faiths? Is it big enough to serve all the Muslims in the area? No. So they want to build something bigger and better.

Ignoring the rest of your rhetoric, you already admitted they have a constitutional right to build what they want, why is it an issue?

You really should take a break if you can't discuss things calmly, it's not good for you and it's not good for the discussion.

Nice try Photon...

Really. The Pentagon AND Manhattan had a mosque before 9/11. They are both still there.

P51 is BS and you know it. What an incredibly lame argument you posted.

Build a basketball court, etc...and a all faith facility farther away....

HERE, learn what happened after the fall of Rome. I believe that when you say "Religion" has held us back that you really mean CHRISTIANITY held us back. And that is simply not the fact.

Basically, it comes down to you to provide the evidence of which non-religious group would have driven us forward. In the face of, evidence of non-Christian forces trashing modernity right after the fall of Rome.
Do you need evidence that water is wet too? If you have the blinders on a topic that is current .Why on earth would I waste one moment of my time thinking I could convince you that your perception of the history of mankind would be wrong.

I didn't post any argument, I'm trying to understand what your problem with it is. You haven't explained it, so I can only ask questions and see your responses to them to try and figure it out.

Or you could just explain why the facility should not be built where it is.

Bzzzt, wrong again. While the West was going through the Dark Ages after the fall of the (Christian) Roman Empire, many early scientific advancements -- particularly in the field of astronomy -- were prominent in the Islamic world.

Quote:
During the Middle Ages, astronomy was mostly stagnant in medieval Europe, at least until the 13th century. However, astronomy flourished in the Islamic world and other parts of the world. This led to the emergence of the first astronomical observatories in the Muslim world by the early 9th century.[15][16][17] In 964, the Andromeda Galaxy, the nearest galaxy to the Milky Way, was discovered by the Persian astronomer Azophi and first described in his Book of Fixed Stars.[18] The SN 1006 supernova, the brightest apparent magnitude stellar event in recorded history, was observed by the Egyptian Arabic astronomer Ali ibn Ridwan and the Chinese astronomers in 1006. Some of the prominent Islamic (mostly Persian and Arab) astronomers who made significant contributions to the science include Al-Battani, Thebit, Azophi, Albumasar, Biruni, Arzachel, Al-Birjandi, and the astronomers of the Maragheh and Samarkand observatories. Astronomers during that time introduced many Arabic names now used for individual stars.[19][20] It is also believed that the ruins at Great Zimbabwe and Timbuktu[21] may have housed an astronomical observatory.

Quote:
The Islamic Golden Age is traditionally dated from the mid-8th to the mid-13th century A.D. (sack of Baghdad by Hulagu, the grand-son of Gengis-Khan).[1][2] During this period, artists, engineers, scholars, poets, philosophers, geographers and traders in the Islamic world contributed to agriculture, the arts, economics, industry, law, literature, navigation, philosophy, sciences, sociology, and technology, both by preserving earlier traditions and by adding inventions and innovations of their own.[3] Howard R. Turner writes: "Muslim artists and scientists, princes and laborers together made a unique culture that has directly and indirectly influenced societies on every continent."[3]

Provide the evidence Seabass. I gave you a link about history. Now YOU provide the evidence of a group that would have lead us into the stars if it were not for religion.

I will happily give you a few days to gather your evidence.

Some people rose out of the Dark ages to explore the stars....I will give you a hint, they rhyme with Westerners.
What word rhymes with "Westerners" that also encompasses countries such as Russia/USSR, Japan, China, and India?

The people of those nations are not Westerners, yet they all have space programs capable of launching satellites into orbit, exploration probes into deep space, and (in the case of Russia/USSR and China) putting a human into space.

Well considering you have trouble with defining Islam as religious I am not surprised you cannot follow an argument where I am comparing Western civilization with Islam. Go figure.

You specifically claimed that non-Christian forces trashed modernity. That statement is not historically accurate given that a non-Christian group (Islam) saved most of what we currently know of Greek and Roman knowledge and made significant scientific advances while the West was going through the Dark Ages after the fall of Rome.
