The drift around my car is lower than it was last night, but there's no way I'm getting my little Mazda out of my parking space. Guess I'll just hang out here until our plow guys come!

I'm in Evanston too...good to know.

Thank you! I saw ppl doing it yesterday and I felt like stopping, rolling down my window and screaming "ONTO THE LAWN! YOU ######!"

What is your lawn too precise to get more snow on it?!?! Stop shovelling more snow on the roads ffs!!! Geezus it's not complicated.

Well I think some people are getting out now, but when I walked up there to look there was a bus stuck in the middle of the lane and 5-10 cars pulled off all over the place.

Notwithstanding the City would have a bird if we did this, does anyone have any idea what it would cost to hire a bobcat to dig out a cul de sac? Based on what they're saying on weather forecasts, this white stuff is going to be here a while. We shoveled our drive way down to the street but we're looking at at least a foot of snow on the street beyond the drive way. It's even higher (double that) where it drifted.

I'd do it and send the city the bill.

A bobby? Really? 'Bobcat' too much to say?

Sorry, nothing personal 4x4, that's a huge pet peeve of mine.

You hang around construction sites so often that the slang annoys you? Sorry, I'll try to spell out all six characters next time.

Yeah, that's part of the problem with city graders - they don't have a snowplow on the front so with their side blades, they can't tackle really large snowdrifts and can get really thrown around if they hit a snowdrift the wrong way with their blades. My dad used to drive grader for a RM in Manitoba and found himself in the ditch a few times, even with a front snowplow.

I dug down to the road too, and its extremely slick, so I don't know how much traction even a grader has today.

I think Jar_e's got it. If we don't shovel our sidewalks or cut our grass the city does it and sends us the bill. Well, I should shovel the terrible intersection outside my place and send the city the bill. I may even do the intersection down the street for the amount I would charge them. This works both ways.

Ha, if only it would work that way. Then they'd send a bill back called a fine

Wow. Shovelled our driveway and sidewalk this morning. I hurt. It felt good though. I tried to do the sidewalf of the building across the street which is boarded up, but my arms were too jello-y by then.

Once I shovelled the drive and walk this morning (about 18-20" drifts) and exhumed the garage door, I put the Expedition in 4WD hi and went to Chinook Center. That mall was as deserted as 9pm on a Wednesday night; I got a lot done.
