Except he's not the one who drove this thread off-topic. You did.

This wasn't a thread called 'Is Radiohead Good?' or even just 'Radiohead'. It was made to notify people about a particular event. Rather than address the OP you jumped in immediately and decided to give your critical opinion of the band. Even if this was the thread for that, you didn't even express those opinions in anything that could even resemble critical thought or insight. So, instead, other posters who are interested in the thread have to wade through your garbage.

It's the same thing on a number of other music threads on this forum, and is one of the worst things about this Off-Topic board (not aimed at you specifically). Someone starts a thread about John Mayer playing GM Place, and three posts it's 'John Mayer is gay, blah blah...'. If you're not interested in John Mayer playing GM Place then just skip that thread.

If you've got such a hate on for Radiohead that's fine. But why don't you just start another thread called 'Radiohead sucks balls' or 'Bands I Hate'. Moreover, rather than suggesting fans or people interested in discussing their performance here want to fellate Radiohead and you're just the voice of reason, why don't you just leave the thread altogether? Clearly there's no reason for you to be in here as you no have interest in having a discussion.

It's my least favourite album of theirs but it certainly is "them". If you don't like it, you might not like anything else.

I don't know if there is anything to "get". They are just a band after all. All this "you don't get it" stuff is probably the reason there is such a backlash.

The amount of love they get is over the top. It reminds me of pretentious Mac fanboy ######bags and I can understand why it would turn people off.

I would say don't give up on it. Give it a couple more listens, then let it digest for a while. If it still doesn't do anything for you, then it probably won't. I know my first impression of In Rainbows (even as a pretty big fan) was that it was nothing great. But as I listened to it more, it started to sink in a bit more, and now I view it as right up there with OK Computer and Kid A, my favorite of their albums.

My advice to anyone I've come across who don't "get" them (whatever that means) but are interested in the band has always been to start with OK Computer. For me it will always be their masterpiece, a perfect hybrid of their more rock-oriented sound (i.e. The Bends) with the later experimental/electronic direction (Kid A, Amnesiac).

I think why I like In Rainbows is because it has a similar feel to OK Computer... It's more interesting and complex than The Bends; less esoteric than Kid A or Amnesiac; and a lot more focused and cohesive than Hail to the Thief.

Download Kid A and wear headphones!!! This one did it for me. The very first song and I was hooked!

So I watched their grammy performance, and for someone with an open minded taste in music, I have to admit it kind of left me wondering what the big deal was. Not that they were bad or anything, but all the talk about radiohead, the addition of the marching band, a big grammy performance, and I thought it might turn out to be really spectacular. I was a little disappointed when it wasn't (at least IMO).

Anyone want to recommend a few of their more popular songs I can download and have a listen to?

I have a friend who has argued consistently for like a decade that her favorite Radiohead song of all time is Treefingers, that it is "hands down the most brilliant thing they have ever done."
