Do they know the motive of the killing yet or was it a random act?

I just saw the end of the story here on the news.......

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't there another high profile beheading in Manitoba within the last 10 years? Rival biker gangs if I recall correctly.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that this is a gang hit. The brutality and the publicity are classic intimidation techniques.

'apply' being the operative word here... you think Clifford Olson is ever going to get paroled... or Paul Bernardo?

Doubtful.

I doubt it. How many gang hits involve a crazy guy swinging a knife at random bus passengers. If he was a hitman wouldn't he have tried to escape the scene. This guy was just strait out nuts.

They are both eligible to apply at 25 year mark.

This fella will not be convicted of first degree murder. Likely a lighter sentence do to "extenuating" circumstances. Maybe manslaughter.

It'd be the craziest damn gang hit I ever heard of. He didn't even try to get away.

Who knows of course, but this guy just seems straightjacket-nuts and that poor kid was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

How long before this becomes a TV movie? Terror on the Trans Canada.

Think about this: what does it do to a person to witness something like this? The guy in the video and the bus driver and the trucker were all standing at the front window and the nutbar was holding the head by the hair for them to see. I'm pretty sure they wont forget that for awhile. I'd hate to have any kind of dream like that let alone actually witness it.

I don't know if he is/was in shock or he's got brass balls, an iron stomach or rocks for brains, but that guy in the video was interviewed last night and today and I ain't seen anyone else on camera yet.

He comes across like just a regular fellow but according to his story he saw the whole thing, more than anyone else, and he's on that there television talking about it all matter-of-fact like, maybe a little exasperated, but that's the extent of his emotions on the subject.

Weird.

It's damn freaky! He was telling the story like he saw a car accident or a bar fight. Shock? Maybe he has seen stuff before like an ex-military?

Really, eh? The victim was what, 19? I have my doubts about this being a gang hit personally...

Yeah I thought maybe he was a soldier who had been in Afghanistan or perhaps a paramedic or who-the-hell-knows what other life experience could make you keep your cool in that situation. According to his story, he even went back on the bus.

He'd even had a night to "sleep on it" and he still didn't seem rattled in the interview this morning.

I have no shame (well, maybe a little) in saying that if I had been in his shoes, those shoes would have been filled with fecal matter and urine.

Point of a concealed weapon is to 'conceal' it on your body. Not in some overhead rack. In fact, that is probably against the law.

Pure shock coupled with huge doses of adrenaline still kicking round his whole body.

I can almost guarantee you that that fella still hasn't slept as I'm typing this.

What's more they can give him all the counselling he wants now but 6 months to 3 years down the line is when he's going to need it.

He's not going to have a chance to forget it and move on until after the criminal trial. Between now and then (the dust settling period until it becomes news again at the trial) I guarantee you he'll have problems, post traumatic stress disorder or whatever they're calling it now.

This particular chapter of his life is going to run a while.

The guy having a gun would have made it even more tragic. Certainly don't need a CCW permit for that. And no mental case like this would go through the trouble of getting one.

The point of a CCW is to be able to defend yourself in situations like this. And to defend yourself would be to shoot the guy, possibly in the head. With proper ammunition, chances are no other harm would have been done. I know that sounds blunt, but that is the way it is.

Say the guy would have been able to trap someone else on the bus? How do you go after him when he has a butcher knife? Hit him with a crowbar? You're putting yourself in danger then too.

Shock; classic post-traumatic stress response.

He'll have nightmares for sure. Poor dude.
