So who do they go after as a DH now?
Barry Bonds is still looking for work
Ryan Klesko is still around I believe.
Maybe the Yankees wanna get rid of one of their bench warmers that cant play everyday like Giambi etc?

Frank was struggling hard and is a bit of a head case. i could go either way on this one, so i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Great move by Ricciardi, as Frank pulled the same garbage in Chicago, cripes he was sat down and completely flamed out rather than worrying about the team. Cue the Bonds express to the Jays, and I hope he has finished a good cycle of roids and has a fresh batch of the clear at the ready.
edit-If you think about it Bonds is the perfect fit, the Jays need left handed pop in between the gaggle of righties, he runs better than Frank, has a killer eye, doesn't rush Lind ahead of schedule........but he comes with more baggage than anyone in MLB history. I'd sign him in a second and will buy the Jersey, this could be an awesome travelling circus!

The thing is that Bonds still can hit. Look at this line from last season:
OBP SLG OPS
.480 .565 1.045
He would've had the highest OPS on the Jays last season. His homers might be slowing down, but homers are over-rated and clearly Bonds does a lot more to help a ball club.
Bonds is exactly what the Jays need...but it's just a high risk, high reward situation. Is it worth it?
EDIT: On second thought, the Jays need to go out and get Bonds. I hate the guy, but fact of the matter is the guy can still mash. He'd undoubtedly be our best hitter. With baseball being the way it is with the division alignments and ridiculous salary structure the Jays need to take the risk and get Bonds. They've played it safe (the only way they could play it) for the past few years, but when you have a chance to add a 1000-1100 OPS bat to the line-up for nothing you do it.

Who knows, but regardless of the fit I can't picture Bonds wanting to come to Canada, I picture him being one of those "but then my kids will have to learn metric" Americans who don't understand there is civilization outside of the US.
I'm also concerned that players will see this as the team cheaping out and running from that 09 option.
How does the CBA in the MLB work, is Thomas due his 08 money regardless?

Agreed. Sad day getting rid of Thomas, but it was hard not do considering his whining just one day after being held off the roster. It wasn't the usual cliche tone either. As for Bonds, I agree with he's the type of hitter the Jays need, but considering it's Bonds and he's a less than welcoming teammate from all accounts, I'd say it's an easy pass. I can't believe JP admitted to thinking about signing him in the offseason. Personally, I don't think he'd consider coming to Toronto as (it's just a rumor), but his ex-wife was Canadian, and after his divorce he was really bitter against Canadians in general.

Yeah, there really is no room for me, me, I, I guys like Thomas if they're not doing a hell of a lot on the field for your team. He was always a bit of a redundant piece for the Jays and I don't think they'll miss not having a big slow right handed hitter like him not doing much. Adam Lind is off to a pretty good start in AAA this year so maybe it's time to give him a bit of a shot. Once a guy like Rolen comes back I don't think the Jays would be out much at all. I personally like the balance of a lineup that would have Stairs, Overbay, and Lind along with a switch hitting Zaun to match up against right handed pitching.

I think Bonds will jump on the 2pm to Toronto if JP offers anything reasonable salary wise, and it's not like the Jays have any kind of established leaders in that clubhouse to shakeup. Not to mention, this will put the Jays on ESPN 24-7 for the next several weeks, imagine the reaction he will get in New York and Boston, man listening to the crowd would make suffering through a Jamie Campbell broadcast well worth it.
It's an easy call for JP, he's done if he doesn't win this year, bad press is still press which will sell tickets, especially when this club draws flies for A's and Rangers series. Plus Bonds can actually produce.

Jays players? Doubtful at best. They want to win, they see what he has been bringing....dude still makes his small fortune this year and gives the Jays a chance to actually improve the team now. Thats what "winners" worry about...not that the team was going cheap by spending money on almost nothing.

yep...but this allows them to get out of paying him 10 Mil next year for more non-production. Well worth it.

Apparently a mutual thing according to Gammons http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3355502
Thomas not shaking his teammates hands after the game says alot about Frank's priorities, sad way to go out for him. Especially when the Jays are paying Frank to leave, as stated in the above article, it's go time for Lind.

So, Lind?
Didn't Stewart play a lot of DH last season? I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Burnett's having trouble today . . . can't find his curveball or his breaking ball and refuses to trust his fastball.
He's walked 3 batters in one inning and has just walked another to load the bases with 1 out

What's new eh! I thought he was going to do his patented strong outing-disaster outing game by game rotation that he did last year. Seems like he just prefers the disaster outings now.

They are speculating Lind becomes the starting LF and Stairs moves into the full time DH role - likely they will be platooning with Stewart. Cosintino talked with JP and said they almost for sure wont be going out side of the organization for a replacement due to financial considerations. Lind however has a sore neck and Diaz will be up for a few days instead.
Of course, it isn't as if JP is actually truthful with the media, so who knows what will really happen.
Bonds to the Jays makes too much sense if he wants to be here.

If Bonds was signed, I wouldn't watch another broadcast until he left. The guy is garbage.

He may be a prick/terrible person, but aren't you sick of watching a mediocre team for the last 14 seasons?
If he can add something to the lineup, why not take a chance?
