Hearing Weegar talk post game and it seems like he gets it atleast.
But I agree most UFA's won't bring in that passion with them

Vladar had an outstanding first period and was perfect for the rest of the game apart from being the victim of the worst puck luck I’ve seen in a very long time.
Had it not been for Vlad, this would have been a blowout. But it wasn’t and over the final 40, the team responded to Vladar’s performance and competed well. In fact, I thought we played very well in the second.
A terrible first and puck luck in the third cost us this one.

Well, not the result I wanted to see when I got up this morning, but it is the one I expected. *Sigh* Ah, well.

I know the Flames winning isn’t necessarily the best thing for the franchise at this point in time. But losing to the Oilers will never sit right with me

The expected goals someone posted while he was on the ice shows him at about 2%.
The Flames as a whole were at 32%, but were saved by Vladar.

Who cares? They’re a really good team, have the best player in the world, and have won 13 straight. Let the panel talk about them. That’s why the mute button was invented. Turn it off and move on to other things that bring you happiness.
|
They are not a really good team. They are deeply, deeply flawed team and have been buoyed by a muffin schedule with very little travel, and abundance of days off and officiating that has been the sole reason for a number of the wins.
As was mentioned, these wins were against weaker teams, with mostly backup goaltenders. If the NHL officiating team lets them lose the games they are supposed to lose, and their record is 8-5 over the last 13 like it should have been, are they still the juggernaut that they are being portrayed as?

The only thing keeping this from being 100% disaster is that the oilers haven't won a cup with McDavid yet. So far the Avs and Knights have saved our asses, hopefully a team can save us from pure hell once again.
Only this year it looks like there will be two bullets to dodge instead of one.

Don’t worry…. The team that will save us from pure hell is the Edmonton Oilers themselves.

Just went through posts in this thread and the two views of the 1st Edm goal caught my eye.
Foegele has black tape on the back of his stick and white tape on the front?
Just shows that a pic is two dimensional and most of the time does not show the actual reality.
Also would not be surprised if someone from the no goods sabotaged Sharky's sticks. How many exploded on him yesterday compared to so far this season.

It was a frustrating game to watch is putting it mildly. Hockey gods just flat out hate us. I will give the Flames props for pushing back. I thought they played McDavid and Draisaitl well for the most part. Game if cms and the Flames were on the wrong side both times. Also wtf was with that interference penalty early on Ruzikca, I am.hoping the replay they showed wasn't the penalty.

The Flames are one or two players short in terms of competing with the next tier of teams
I think the goaltending and defence is good enough. But we’re short one or two offense generators. I don’t see them in the organization either.
Probably good enough to make the playoffs though.

Yes, he crosschecked that oiler 5 times in about 5 seconds
The flow turned in our favor when Greer hammered that oiler prick coming around the net. Before that they were pretty soft.

Instead we have guys getting beat by a scrub on an icing with an empty net. And getting turnstiled by Ryan ####ing McLeod.
Conroy, please get rid of the tired old guard and bring in some guys who will actually get up for a rivalry game.

Outside the playoffs, rivalries aren’t really a thing in the NHL anymore. The skill on in the ice in today’s NHL has never been higher, and the emotion has never been lower.

The Flames were down a goal and the last 6 minutes they were hammed in their own D zone for a prolonged period of time. The lacks of intensity and skills were were apparent. I noticed the Oilers skated freely in the neutral zone and when the players accelerated they were in no man’s land. On the contrary the home team was playing stationary and hardly generated any speedy entry. Playing scared seems to be one thing, but the lack of skills make it worst.
I enjoyed Valdez’s clutch saves and weegar’s goal. Other than that I saw a very tentative team trying to play a safe game with mediocre players. The result is not unexpected.

Everyone wants those Battle of Alberta’s that you see highlights from.
It’s just not going to happen. A lot of players are buddies off the ice they vacation together, they train together etc.
A lot of players don’t even have the roots in the city they play in like that. They want to win but they likely don’t have the same passion and hatred like the fans do.
