IT goes without saying the Winnipeg game is huge, but Flames really need 2 points from Chicago.
Can easily see the Jets game going to OT.
It would be "better" to lose to Winnipeg and beat Chicago than the other way around, TBQH if you want to split hairs.
Doesn't matter, we are winning both.

Why?

Yeah but if the Flames beat them that is only one more
And if the Flames win in regulation, that Jets loss could be in OT.
Each team has 4 other games:
If the Flames beat the Jets in regulation:
- The flames need to earn 1 more point than the jets in the other 4 games
- The Jets would only need to match the points of the Flames in the other 4 games
If the Jets win in regulation:
- The Flames would have to earn 5 more points than the Jets in the other 4 games, so the Jets would only need to go 2-2 in the other games to guarantee ahead of the flames.
If the Flames win in OT:
-the Flames would need 2 more points than the Jets in the remaining 4 games for each team.
- The jets would have to be 3-0-1 in their remaining games to guarantee finishing ahead of the Flames
If the Jets win in OT:
- The flames would need to earn 4 more points in the remaining 4 games for each team.
- The Jets would need to be 2-1-1 to guarantee finishing higher than the Flames.
NOTES:
- The Flames play one of their 4 games prior to playing the Jets, the Jets play all 4 after.
- The Flames cannot be mathematically eliminated in the next two games even with regulation losses against Chicago and Winnipeg.

I think you've got it backwards.
But for the Flames, they need to win the game in front of them.
Haven't seen it mentioned but that deadline deal for Ritchie and Stetcher is looking pretty good right now. Was an afterthought at the time but would we have won the last two games without those guys?

What is your reasoning behind this? The game against the Jets is a 4 point game. Ideally, you’d want the Jets to go winless in their remaining games.

I don't know how you figure that. Who cares how many points Chicago gets? Beating Winnipeg gets us points and denies them points at the same time.
It’s been said time and again - goaltending is the most mental position. You don’t bring up a guy who’s never played a league game, throwing him into an actual must win, and risk the development of your best goalie prospect in forever.
If the flames don’t make it, it’s better to not wreck a young goalies mental state in the process.

You're thinking that the Flames would make the playoffs without Wolf playing a regular season game and then they would suddenly start Wolf in the playoffs? Like the Flames of all teams are less keen on putting prospects in at the best of times, but literally no team in the NHL is making the playoffs and suddenly promoting a prospect goalie to start there. That is literally an insane idea
Is it pretty farfetched? Sure, of course it is.
But if we keep winning games with a 0.800 save percentage and a 4.00 GAA, that’s a sure fire recipe for a “waste of 8 days” against a top seed in round one.
Jake Oettinger made his NHL debut in the 2020 playoffs (albeit due to injury), and he seems to be doing okay…

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd actually love it. I'm just saying if it were to happen, a Sutter coached Flames would be one of the last places it would happen. AND if it were to happen here, he would have to get games before the playoffs and take the net, not be given the net for game 1 of the playoffs.
