The Calgary Flames traded defenseman Ian White and forward Brett Sutter -- who was demoted Monday to AHL Abbotsford after getting into a bar fight last week -- to Carolina for defenseman Anton Babchuk and forward Tom Kostopoulos.
Sutter, 23, was briefly jailed on suspicion of assault Nov. 11 in Scottsdale, Ariz., after he allegedly punched a man as the two were leaving a bar at closing time. The Flames were in town for a game the following day against the Phoenix Coyotes.
Brett Sutter was drafted in the sixth round in 2005 by Calgary. Even played a few games with us in the late 2000s. Very cool to see him come back for the last stretch of his career.
Almost feels like this guy is bound to end up a coach.
Like the signing, like the experience and is a great pro to have around the kids.
Flames: Named after a 1864 civilian massacre and razing by Union troops in the Confederate state of Georgia.

The burning of Atlanta in 1864 was not a civilian massacre. Sherman had ordered the city evacuated in September and according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution "Only around 50 families and an unknown number of freed slaves either were allowed to remain or did so without permission."
Though the destruction primarily targeted structures and infrastructure of military value, "He had officers draw up a plan to destroy military targets, which included a detailed map marking the structures. No private residences were among them. ... there was little doubt about the plan’s consequences. ... The real cause of the subsequent mass destruction was Sherman’s acquiescence to widespread disobedience among his soldiers."
Primary sources from the time speak of the targeting of property, not lives: "A Wisconsin private wrote, 'I believe this destruction of private property in Atlanta was entirely unnecessary and therefore … disgraceful.'"
While it is certain that there were civilian casualties during the siege and capture of Atlanta in the summer of 1864, I can find no sources at all indicating even a single civilian casualty of the destruction and burning in November, even the Atlanta Journal-Constitution refers only to the destruction of property and not of any 'massacre' of civilians "A precise number will never be known, but the best estimate is that 40 percent of all homes and buildings were destroyed."

I'm not sure how the schedule is right now but I'm excited to come into Calgary and watch the wranglers on a Friday and the Flames on Saturday. Works out well for us out of town folk.

Scheduling practices with three teams (on top of everything else that goes on in the same building) might prove more difficult. I can see the Hitmen in particular using 7 Chiefs, or the Wranglers at Winsport.
Yeah a life lesson from dad to son who was clearly too close to home. Likely a huge reason how he was able to go on to play all those AHL games.
And, who could forget the return in that trade, Kostopoulos, one punching Bieksa.
Babchuk had a career season that year too, 35 points and +32.
I often think about how things would be different if Feaster had the mandate to start the rebuild in 2011 rather than 2013. Iggy had 40 goals and would have fetched a kings ransom at the deadline. Tanguay, Regehr, Kipper, Jokinen, Bourque, Glenncross, hell even Brendan Morrison had a good year. They were just good enough to be in the playoff picture at the deadline but not contending with the likes of Vancouver, Chicago and Boston. Feaster could have kick started a rebuild with big returns on many productive veterans, and probably still would have drafted Gaudreau!

I expect the Wranglers to play their games in the Saddledome.
I expect Hitmen at 7 Chiefs, although a few games like the Teddy Bear Toss obviously needs to be at the Saddledome, as they get sellouts for those games.
All games for all three teams have been announced as being at the Saddledome, and there are only two conflicts with the announced game times (Hitmen games scheduled at the same time as a Wranglers game in November and a Flames game in January).
There are a few Hitmen-Wrangler double-headers on the schedule based on the start times.
Dressing room space will probably be the biggest challenge if they do play double-headers.
I suspect practices at the Saddledome will be a rarity for both teams. The Hitmen will probably make 7-Chiefs their practice home with the Wranglers at Winsport.

The 2022-23 schedule will see Calgary play 68 games with 34 home and 34 on the road. Currently, 28 home games will be played at the Scotiabank Saddledome, and six will be played at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut’ina Nation. With Tsuut’ina Nation’s support and partnership, Seven Chiefs Sportsplex has served as a second home for the Calgary Hitmen including the 2020-2021 Covid bubble season. Seven Chiefs will also serve as host to Hitmen Training Camp at the beginning of September and the first pre-season game vs Red Deer on September 9th.
No information yet on which 6 games will be at Seven Chiefs. The schedule still shows all games at the Dome.
