Pretty amusing that they win the Stone “sweepstakes”, then win the Eichel “sweepstakes”, but they haven’t played them together.

Good news/bad news, the Kings are losing 3-0 to Colorado.
The Panthers have tied it up with the Sharks at 2-2.

I think the honest answer is: they don’t plan to try. Stone will stay hurt until the playoffs. Once the cap is off, everyone feels better.

Purely good news. The sooner the Flames clinch the #2 seed in the west and the Avs clinch #1, the sooner the Flames can start load managing their top players, keeping them fresh for the playoffs, especially Marky.

And then they can go on a golf trip together. Fun.

So I rarely have the opportunity to watch a game live in-person, but watch plenty on TV.
Coming home from the Canucks game and gathering my thoughts.
- That was really a boring game. Very little sustained offensive zone time and very few panic situations where you felt like a team was being dominated and in trouble (except at the very beginning when Vancouver started).
- Lots of the shots on both teams' goalies were muffins with virtually no second chance scoring attempts off rebounds. Credit the defense for boxing out the opposition.
- Zero forecheck pressure by either team, and the defensemen lazily went back for the puck knowing that they had plenty of time and space. It's night and day compared to an average NHL team or a top-tier team like the Flames whom I find are relentless on puck retrieval both on the forecheck and when backchecking.
- My wife, who has watched a grand total of one hockey game during the 2010 Olympics, was with me tonight and said - "Why aren't the players more aggressive? They don't look like they're competing."
- I've never heard of NJ's starting goaltender, Nico Daws, and I only know of Jon Gilles (when he came into the game in relief) because the Flames drafted him. If that's NJ's goaltending depth, no wonder the Canucks scored 6 goals tonight.
- Players that I thought were totally invisible and I barely remember them on the ice: Brock Boeser, OEL, Connor Garland.
- Tonight was really the JT Miller and Bo Horvat show. They were making things happen all over the ice, but it felt like they were about 5 seconds ahead of the rest of their teammates. If they actually had NHL calibre linemates who could keep up, they would have had way more support and dominated the Devils. For example, a few times it was Horvat in a prime scoring position, but no one could get him the puck, so he'd go and help out, and none of his teammates would be in supporting positions, and Horvat was on his own.
Maybe watching the game live is different from on TV, but the last game I watched was Calgary @ Vancouver just before COVID, and it was way more exciting and quality hockey.
Tonight was 4-hours I'll never get back...

How long is Lehner out for? The VgK goaltending is truly awful.

Trade this off season
Trade next season sometime, maybe at deadline
Lose him for nothing
He's had a fantastic season. I'm not sure what the rush would be to trade him perhaps just because his trade value would be so high?

Love Miller and he's been unreal for us this year, but I just don't think we can afford to sign him to a big contract. Hopefully Canucks will start competing for the cup in 3-4 years and having to pay a 33-34 year old player 8-9 million might not be the best plan.

Agreed, I was just thinking of who is more dangerous. The Oilers are not beating anyone, Vegas with Stone and Lehner back can.

This is true.
What do people make of LA as a playoff team?

A well structured well coached team getting good seasons from their top players despite lacking elite talent. They beat up on non playoff teams while keeping games close against top teams. Could win a tight first round series with a favourable match up but can't see them getting past round 2.

I don't think anyone denies they're in huge cap trouble right now. They're gonna lose some key pieces for sure but from what I've watched, Vegas is a different team when Stone and Pacioretty are on the ice. That's why I'm on a "wait and see" approach. Besides, I'd rather have them in the playoffs than the Oilers.
