One, he's a pending UFA
Two, he's on a division rival so the cost to us would be higher, and it's much more likely the Sharks deal him to a non division rival in the end anyways
Three, Hertl is nowhere near being in the same category as Jack Eichel
Just keep winning Flames, or I might be done here.

Hertl is still going to cost a 1st + . And then you might only have him until end of season .

Lol damn. Return is pretty underwhelming, really feels like this trade came down to working out cap space. Vegas ultimately with more flexibility than Calgary.

Yes the Knights will definitely feel the squeeze in the off-season. They would have something like $2.7M of capspace with 15 players on the roster.

“Don’t worry guys we can still land UFA Hertl” was about the last thing I expected to see here.

Hopefully so will Edwards, before he sends Treliving packing.

If this somehow leads to Treliving getting fired I would imagine that a lot of fans will be the opposite of bitter. IMO he's the major obstacle in the way of this team building a contender so anything that fast-tracks his dismissal is a win as far as I'm concerned.

Don't think this team has the guns, even though it has the hustle. You saw Tuesday night what happens when our one or two goal scorers aren't feeling it.
This is why you go and get an Eichel. Said it then, will say it again a few months down the road.
I don't know why people continued to talk about Eichel like a 1B talent and wasn't worth it. He's absolutely a premier player and talent in the league. A cut above our top guys.

As a pretty vocal anti treliving fan, I have no issues in how this turned out. Would have loved to get eichel, and sounds like they were right there till the end, but vegas' package is pretty damn good.
Anyway, I frigin hate the knights. Really hoping this just blows up in their face. F lv..

I can't believe Eichel was there for the taking and the Flames missed again.
Actually, check that. I can totally ####ing believe they missed again.

Like is Adams convinced Krebs is a lock to be a #1C?
That’s a terrible return unless Vegas’s first ends up top 5.

Tkachuk, Coronato and a 1st can't get this done?
If not, it can only be because Tuch has 4.5 years left and Tkachuk has 1.5

I’ve been a Flames fan for 35 years, 1989 is the only time this team has won, ANYTHING! Deep down I always knew all along that they would come up short on trading for Eichel. I remember when Darryl didn’t pull the trigger on Joe Thornton , it still hurts. Well here is to another 35 years of coming up short. So glad when I was a kid I chose this franchise to cheer for
Anyways I hope I’m wrong and this team kicks some a$$ this season, I must admit I’ve been completely wrong about this team so far this season

No Eichel, no extensions (not even talk of negotiation), no core changes, no real, valiant attempt..at anything.
What. Are. You. Doing. Treliving?
You know, besides defining insanity for the umpteenth time.

Your entire gist this entire time is that he could have and you just don’t know that. For all we know they were using us to increase the value and st no point did they have any other interest than Krebs.
My prediction is that Marty is gone by trade deadline

Can you please let us all know exactly what Buffalo asked from the Flames, and what exactly the Flames were countering with?

With a talent like Eichel available, Tre should have went all in. That seems a very beatable package that we could have topped.
Now we're stuck with yet another superstar centre in our division.
This was a huge missed chance that I feel will have the Flames regretting this day.

I think Alex Tuch with his terrific contract is actually a far more attractive piece than Tkachuk as far as Buffalo is concerned. If Buffalo is looking to flip a guy, more contenders will be looking for a cheap complementary player with lots of POs experience than a high cost guy they have to scramble to fit in their cap. Contenders already have stars. They always want depth.

"close but no cigar" will be Trelivings epitaph when he is finished here. Which will likely be when Gaudreau leaves for nothing this summer.
