It's no secret that I'm a massive Fleury fan. He played junior in my hometown.
In 2003 I happened to be in Kitchener during the top prospects game.
After the game was over they had a spot to get players' autographs. I hung around to get him to sign... I think the program... because if I didn't I figured I never would as I could always go it the next day or whenever haha.
While waiting a little kid was vibrating with excitement. He asked his dad if "the Canada goalie would still be there there sign his autograph?" The dad said he didn't know but hopefully.
I was wearing my CB Eagles jersey and said to the kid "i know him personally, he'll stay to sign everyone an autograph... twice". The kid was happy with that response. The dad whispered to me "really?" I told him yes, that's the kind of person he is.
Sure enough, no problem signing the kids autograph. The asked what the hell I was doing there haha.
MAF is a class act and a heck of a guy. I'd love for him to be in a Flames jersey someday, but I doubt that'll happen.
