If I'm Fleury, with how Vegas did me dirty, I retire, let them deal with the cap recapture.

There isn't any cap recapture. Signed his deal before the age of 35.

Over-35 has nothing to do with it. However, if I'm reading the CBA correctly, cap recapture only applies to contracts of at least 6 years. Either way, Fleury has no recapture penalty.
Nice thought, though.

I’d do anything to get traded to Colorado and beat them.

I am pretty surprised the Vegas didn't contact MAF (if that tweet was correct)... its one thing to trade a guy, even if they had cap issues, and another to not to show him proper respect for what he has done for the franchise by not giving him a head's up...
Rooting for MAF to do well

Okay fine, no recapture penalty. Was hoping to screw Vegas in some way.
Feel for the guy, who's given so much, not only for Vegas but to the League as well. Arguably one of the most liked players in the game today.

Fleury handles the situation with class and dignity...
Fleury is like a modern-day Jean Belliveau in the way he comports himself.

If Toronto was smart, they'd throw some chump change to Chicago for Fleury.

The traded mid practice thing doesn’t seem that strange to me, and I seem to recall many organizations doing that to many players. Like, as opposed to what, let him finish practice and then tell him? Is there a difference? Weird complaint. It’s like somebody complaining about being laid off in the middle of them working on an email.
The keycard deactivation is funny though and a bit tacky. I find companies do a poor job of just being honest to people. It’s weird.
Fleury’s non-thanks to the Knights organization is noted though. Just fans, teammates, that’s it. Not the organization or ownership (even though they paid him millions to play hockey but okay, I guess they should have ran their decisions by him?).

Perhaps with all the moves the hawks made gave him hope for a competitive season

Or maybe he likes money, plus Chicago is a pretty cool city.

Or, more to the point...
After getting past initial disappointment period, player decides that getting paid $5M+ for playing a game is better than NOT getting paid $5M+ for playing a game.

Would rather see MAF in a Hawks jersey than a Knights jersey.

Why would Chicago do that. They want to win obviously. Presumably, they would only do so for a massive overpay. Plus Toronto doesn’t have the cap space, so would need Chicago to take back unwanted cap, essentially punting Chicago’s season.

Chicago likely the only team who would take him with no retention and/or requiring a first round pick along with him.
To think that no other team would take the vezina winner with only one year left on his contract ( along with a free 2nd round pick), is hard to believe.

Edmonton was probably jumping up & down until they were informed of his no trade list.
