Wow. I looked at the score last night when it was 2-0 and never followed up so I just chalked it up as a loss. Nice to come here this morning and see it was a W!

It's not necessarily sustainable winning hockey, but for a team that lost Panarin, Duchene, Dzingel, and Anderson compared to last year, it's still pretty impressive what they've done with what they do have. Not many thought that was a playoff roster over there.

For sure. Torts’ teams always overachieve. NYR played a lot like Columbus under him and went pretty deep.

That effort by Johnny and Monahan in OT was so awesome. These guys are battling out there and its great to see.
Their goalie played great I thought, made some unreal saves.

Johnny out muscling the d man behind the net to squeeze out to the side and feed Monahan was great

I thought for sure Mony had a tap in, but Korpisalo was stellar. Jumped out of my chair when Brodie buried the winner though.

Taking a while to get to 5000

No kidding. Korpisalo left all the holes open, then tore all the groins stopping that puck.
I think thats why he couldn't get up in time to stop Brodie's shot. He was broken.
/s - I know he skated right off after.

Thanks - this could be crucial to making the playoffs!

Absolute freaking idiots.

They come across as such hockey aristocrats. From their comments they actually think that Calgary doesn't belong in some exclusive club that somehow the Oilers have earned a spot in despite being the joke of the NHL for years.

Don’t forget the two time Vezina winner that left for Florida.

I think the criticism of their play last night is over-done.
Columbus got a lead on a really weak (or possibly deflected) shot, then got the two-goal lead on what was, without question a horrible play. Beyond that, they generated almost nothing else. But you have to give them credit for completely shutting things down defensively, after that.
For the Flames, there was definitely some sloppy passing and too many giveaways, but I thought the effort was there. Scoring chances favoured them pretty heavily, I would think. And for some reason, I felt they were going to find a way to come back and win it.
Glad they did, obviously. This game makes up for the point they gave away against the Preds.

Columbus just tried to trap the rest of the game, but I wouldn't say they were outplaying Calgary. They were just clogging the netural zone to try to win 2-0. Flames dominated the shots and chances after the first, and it back fired for Columbus in the end.
|
Watching the game I thought the Flames were working hard, but not working as a team. Too many individual efforts, sloppy passing, ineffective dump and chase hockey. I think they went through the first 15 minutes of the third period before making three consecutive passes. But full marks for effort, which got it to OT and then their skill guys took over.

Darryl and Torts are my favorites. Its fitting that one of the most highly entertaining and epic Stanley cup finals ever was the two of them clashing in a battle of media devouring, neck vein-popping, un-resting b#### faces.
