The "least worthy team in a playoff spot" comments from Oiler fans are hilarious. This coming from a team with a garbage roster who are constantly outplayed 5 on 5, and yet still manages to pull points out of their butts thanks to some timely help from the officials (usually late in games when they're trailing by a goal) and two superstars who carry the entire team...one of which ended up there only because they sucked so hard for well over a decade.

Edmonton is no good.

Blue Jackets fans are always my favourite in ATLs. I hope that team gets healthy and they can do something in the playoffs.

Oiler fans are always the worst, guaranteed, I say redundantly.

When the team gets into desperate mode they are deadly, now if they could start the games off like that

This game to me is the perfect metaphor for last season vs. this season.

Blue Jackets get 2 goals in the first 10 minutes and the Flames get 2 goals in the final 10 minutes then win it in OT.

The BJs are last years Flames team. They came out and started the season great, then just sat on their (division) lead as teams amped up and made the push for OT (playoffs) and then look lost out there as they lose

The Flames last night were this years team. They didn't come out strong, played hockey good enough to stay in the game (playoff race) and then poured it on for the last 10 minutes (stretch run) to force OT (a playoff spot) AND THEN WON OT (THE STANLEY CUP)

weird metaphor to type up but I did what I could.

Very impressed with the growth and improvement in Andersson’s game.

He led all Flames D with a little over 26 minutes last night. Very very good decisions and execution on a consistent basis.

Wow glad the Flames secured 2 points, however they were terrible in the first 50 minutes of the game....

If they play like that on Friday, outcome won't be the same...

Its weird how they struggle at home

Great win. Had to watch a replay from my hotel room and had to ask my girlfriend to setup the stream so I wouldn't see the score. Suddenly she blurts out that it was a 2-1 game. I was pissed at her for saying that and thought for sure she spoiled the game since it was 2-1 close to the end.

Luckily she was just being a dink and joking around and the Flames got the win. Great success! !

I didnt watch the 3rd. Shame on me!

A bit of separation happening now so hopefully the Flames have caught the consistency bug because I dont think its unthinkable to take the division who are 5 points up.

Didnt think I'd say that thos year with how up and down this team is but here we are.

Get hot for the stretch drive, every teams dream to roll into the playoffs white hot.

I thought this was a really important game for the Flames. The first game at home.e after a long, very successful road trip, and playing a well-coached, out-of-conference team with a talent deficit, and there was every reason to expect to see what we all saw through the first 50 mins. But they pulled through it and took that game over. I am encouraged after last night.

I don't think the Flames were as bad for the first 50 minutes as people were making them out to be.

Columbus scored on their 2nd and 6th shots. One being a bit of a weak goal, and one being a horrible (if not a bit unlucky to turn into a 2-0) turnover by Backlund.

Columbus just tried to trap the rest of the game, but I wouldn't say they were outplaying Calgary. They were just clogging the netural zone to try to win 2-0. Flames dominated the shots and chances after the first, and it back fired for Columbus in the end.

Neither do I, but I feel like we're all still traumatized from the way the 2017-18 season wound down. I know I am. This time of year I don't expect many multi-goal comeback wins the way I might in November.

Re listen to Brian Burke during the 2nd intermission

I don't remember his exact quote, but his thoughts the Flames were playing a bad home game without any emotion etc...

He was not impressed.

I loved seeing how pissed it was, it shows he still cares about this team. Having him around this year would probably benefit the mentality of this team....if only we could get him to go in and spend the day righting the ship

He actually himself said this morning that he was maybe mistaken. The first period was bad but that they had actually turned it around in the second and were carrying the play and chances in the 2nd.

Bad first...sure.

First 50 minutes bad....no chance.

I liked Brian Burke in his time here but I have a hard time taking anything he says seriously anymore after he praised Kassian for horse collaring and violently attacking Tkachuk after chucky dealt him a series of clean body checks.

I thought the Flames were slightly better in the second, and really started to play better in the third. I think it would have been easy to get frustrated trying to attack the trap, but they stuck with it. Lindholm's goal was huge as it made it a one goal game. From there, it seemed like they just needed a bounce to go their way because they were relentless in their attack. Sometimes you get that bounce and sometimes you don't. Last night, they got it.

Also, the guys on 960 this morning were saying that the first Columbus goal went off of Forbort's stick. I didn't get to watch a slo-mo replay or anything, but it sure looked like it handcuffed Talbot for some reason. If so, does that change how the goal (or his performance) last night is viewed? I agree he wasn't tested much after the 2-0 goal, but if it goes to 3-0 it's likely game over...

Burke was right to be mad about turnovers. The effort thing is a little tougher because Columbus just plays that kind of withering game. TBF, you can both sympathize with the Flames trying to play against it and mad about them not doing enough to cut through the checking. But for sure the style makes other teams look like their effort is not there.

That all said, like I posted before, I don’t think Columbus’ style is winning hockey because it depends on perfect defensive execution and it makes it too hard for them to push back when they get scored on.

I only watched the end of the 3rd and OT really. Went to the mall, came back, put the little guy to bed, walked the dog. Go back up and get the little guy to go back to sleep. Come down and oh hey, it's 2-1.

Gotta say, korpisalo is amazing.
