Hah, and there it is!

Pretty clearly a panic move to try to stay in the playoff race without Boeser in the lineup - Benning knows he's fired if they miss the playoffs so he's mortgaging the future to try to keep his job. Utterly transparent.

your tune be if the Oil had made this deal lets be honest. you'd be doing cartwheels cause the Oil would actually have a legit top 6 forward aside from Mclotto and Dry.

your GM would love to pull of a deal like this... but there's that whole waiving to go to Edmonton thing.

your whole post sounds so salty.
Most prospects aren't sure things. That's why it's better to have more of them.

Would not want a deal like this at all. I don't want the Oilers to make any deal this deadline. We have had 60 games to see that none of the teams in the Pacific are Stanley Cup contenders.

Foolish to sell futures down the road for a first or second round playoff exit.

It hurting them in the long-run hinges on Madden or the 2nd round pick working out. So it may not hurt them.
But it's the combination of a series of moves designed to kick open their contention window: this deal, the Miller deal, odd free agent signings of Beagle and that other guy (Roussel?).
It's that combo of that stuff that will probably hurt in the long-run, as opposed to a singular move

That's unfair organizational depth.
I don’t follow prospects like I use to but that list doesn’t look that impressive to me. Is there even a blue chipper there?

I am glad he didn’t get traded to the Flames. I can’t think of any good nicknames for him..

This almost certainly doesn't work out for the Canucks in the end. Are they gonna win the cup? Are they gonna re-sign him to a deal that works out well for the team?

Very unlikely on both IMO

I'll add some context.

Gabe Vilardi - 11th overall pick in 2017
Alex Turcotte - 5th overall pick in 2019
Tyler Madden - 68th overall pick in 2018, 37 P in 27 GP NCAA sophomore year
Arthur Kaliyev - 33rd overall pick in 2019, ranked much higher pre-draft
Rasmus Kupari - 20th overall pick in 2018
Jaret Anderson-Dolan - 41st overall pick in 2017
Akil Thomas - 51st overall pick in 2018, WJC hero
Samuel Fagemo - 50th overall pick in 2019

Turcotte is absolutely a blue-chip prospect. Everyone else is very highly thought-of.

Nice deep list, but they lack high end other than Turcotte.
But they'll get that as they bottom out for the next 2-4 years.

the West is WIDE open this year, no real scary contenders.

get to the finals and its a 50/50 draw.

the East will beat each other down in the East.

I'd argue Vilardi is pretty high-end too. Tobias Bjornfot on defense maybe as well.

Vilardi missed some key development time missing basically an entire year.
But his first pro season has gone reasonably well and he could be back on track.

Lol yeah because Colorado & St.Louis are no threat at all and definitely not better than the entire Pacific.....

Well, they probably need to win a lottery. But they'll be bad for at least another year or two so they have a couple more shots at it.

It's not a 50/50 draw between the Vancouver Canucks and WSH/BOS/PIT/TBL

Edit: I think you meant the west actually and not the Stanley Cup Finals

If you look at that list how many of those adds have been positive at this point?
Stone, Kadri for sure
Hall hasn't worked out in Phoenix
Duchene is back to the Duchene that he's been most of his career
Faulk has been OK at best
Pavelski has been not great.

100% that team that makes it out of the East will be a shell of that team.

just like the Canucks were against Boston....
