i wouldn't take any of them over the flames, then or with 1 or two more players

Going all in only to lose to Tampa.

Flames did well to steer clear imo. Vegas looks like crap in 3 years... They squandered a huge pot of prospects and are left with glass as their only blue chipper... A mediocre blue line and an over the hill goalie.
Would have been fine with zucker for the first but money makes it tough.

I'm happy Treliving didn't go all nuts today and overpay. I'm confident in this group. I feel like their window is now opening, and it would cripple them to trade away more futures. You need guys like Valimaki and Andersson on ELC's to be competitive. All those guys paying the crazy rental prices are going to regret it when they get bounced out of the first round.

Our competitors in the west have fired their bullets. Seems like the Flames are taking a longer term view - see what this group can do in the playoffs and not disturb it, hang onto assets, make bigger moves at a later date when they feel the time and prices are right.
I'm ok with it, but damn it sure would have been exciting to land Stone. Had the Flames not signed Neal, I am 100% certain, Stone would be a Flame right now.
I am definitely OK not getting Zucker. He hasn't been good this year and has a lot of term left.

I have a totally different feeling than some others. I like that we were in the mix, but held our line. Exactly how it should be done. I want this team to be good for a long time with prospects constantly coming in.
Going all-in for a window can make sense...but the probability for a cup win over a span of time including a window followed by a rebuild is probably not much different than for a team that can stay "good" over that same time period.

Awful take is awful.
I'm pleased that we didn't waste assets on rentals.

Flames made their big move in the offseason: Lindholm, Hanifin and Neal. They didn't give up anywhere near as much for those upgrades (sans Neal).
It's pretty clear they had targets, had the price they were willing to pay, and it was too much. If anything, the Flames probably drove up the cost for everyone else. Happy to see some discipline coming from the front office.
They got their depth dman, but I would've liked to have seen a depth veteran goalie with NHL experience.

Looks like the flames will use Lazar as their 'own rental'

I go back to comments made by Conroy a month or so ago. The Flames haven't seen the current group go through a longer playoff run. So they're not quite sure where their deficiencies may be.
You look at teams that have made moves. Most have gone through some playoff runs, so they have a better idea of what their team is, and what they need.
I do believe there is a hole at second line wing, but Peters has shown that he can shuffle the deck and create a spark. The options are there.
Disappointing with the hype leading up, and Treliving was obviously trying, but I do think it was a good move to draw a line at what you're willing to move. Not to mention, Stone at 9.5 would have severely messed up our salary structure.
Need the top line to dominate again.

Well if we finish first in the division we will only be able to face 1 of those teams without having a deep playoff run. If we finish 2nd or 3rd we could potentially face 2.
Not making any big moves today is being overblown.

I'm still hoping Neal comes back healthy and back to form in the playoffs. That would be a huge add.

As one reads some of the vitriolic and baseless comments directed towards Treliving, one must remember this famous phrase as an appropriate response.
“ if brains were dynamite, you couldn’t blow your nose”

Really? Vegas didn't give up much for Stone. No one in the west gave up much for any of the rentals. Seems like Tree just #### the bed TBH.

San Jose has a better team than Calgary but they are somehow behind us in points?
Goodluck to Vegas and Mark Stone closing a 16 point gap between Calgary and Vegas.
Calgary just needs to stay on top of the division, play Minnesota/Dallas/Colorado/Chicago and then wait for Vegas and San Jose to beat each other up.
