We still have Valimaki, Kylington, Dube and our first. These could be important pieces in future Playoff runs

Nice to sit back and watch all the plebs ruin their futures while the top two teams in the NHL do nothing major.

What was the big deal that fell through last night that Maloney was talking about to TSN? Was that Simmonds refusing to waive the NTC?

Zucker would have been an amazing add. A significant upgrade on Frolik:

But at the end of the day I think what it comes down to is the playoffs will be about whether Rittich(/Smith) can outplay MAF or Hellebuyck or Rinne, and whether we can hang with a Tampa team that looks epiccally talented.

Doing nothing, especially with the inability to realistically re-sign Stone, probably ends up being the right play

Steinberg says it sounds like the Zucker trade was very close, but the Flames decide not to pull the trigger.

Someone like Stone, Zuc, or Hayes would have been a lot of fun, but frankly I would have been happy with a few more depth moves.

In the end they are still the best in the West, and all everyone else did was try to match them.

Why is anyone worried about the Jets or Preds? Western Final? I'll take my chances if we get there.

Win the division...then one of SJ/Vegas is out in round 1

I am okay they did nothing but it was a little bit of a letdown. I am happy we still have Dube, Valimaki, Kylington etc

This team needs to win the division and avoid Vegas in round one

Heard from reliable source the deal in place was Frolik + 1st..

Just sounds like the deal didn't go through on time

The way I see it, every team in the West loaded up trying to catch us. If Tree is confident in this group, I'm willing to wait and see how we do.

Tampa and Calgary didn't do anything today, and they're still the two teams to beat, imo.

Out of Nashville, Winnipeg, Vegas and SJ, we will only play 2 of them, maybe 1 if a team like the Blues upset a team or two.

Let them beat up on each other in R1. We’ll be fine.
That post was more of getting excited about getting zucker and it falling through

Now that I've had time to settle, we made our big move in the off season getting Lindholm and Hanafin. We also signed Neal, would be nice for him to come back firing all cylanders

We are still top and a win tomorrow will put us 5 points clear. Just need to stay healthy and keep going

Well, even Flames' own commentators don't agree with the first sentence. Francis and Boomer were both saying this morning that "yeah, Flames have been good, but we all know, they are not yet deep/strong enough for a Cup run, which is a "war of attrition". But they also agreed that there's no point in going all in on Stone if the above is correct. Let the team taste the playoff run from a high position and hope for improvements next year. That sort of thing.

I don't know. What Vegas is paying for Stone does not seem prohibitive at all. If we could have rented Mark Stone for this run by paying something comparable, I thought we should have. Anyway, irrelevant at this point.

There's no way Treliving would say no to this.

Huge fail. Put all his chips in on Stone when a nice piece like Zucc could have been added for cheap. West got significantly better, Flames stand pat and potentially waste one of the last years of Gio. Big misstep by Tre.

From the sounds of it, this is definitely something to keep an eye on in the off-season

Because the Treliving thread was closed...

Vegas: Stone
San Jose: Nyquist
Winnipeg: Hayes
Nashville: Simmonds + Granlund

I want to remind you all that these teams are currently behind Calgary in points and these moves were made to be better than Calgary.

We are the team to beat. So suck it Pacific, you traded your futures to beat Calgary this year, but what about next year or the year after that.
