Its just so stupid, I dont know why they bothered? Was McLellan that bad that they couldnt even hang onto him while they searched for other coaches?
Now they're paying MacLellan and Hitch at the same time and looking for another coach.
I get that you want the 'bump' that you get by replacing a coach and hey, I'll even give them credit for pulling the trigger. I wish we'd fired Gulutzan right around this time last season, but just putting an interim coach in for now likely isnt going to accomplish much.

Lieterally they thought of the idea yesterday and made the decision today. They were all probably sitting in a room trying to figure out what to do, someone said hitchcock, and they all just agreed. No planning whatsoever lol. Classic Oilers

I bet Oilers brass figured they played well enough to win on Saturday, and just had an off-game against VGK (losing 6-2) on Sunday. When the Flames pummelled Vegas last night, the realization of the Oilers no-goodness sank in and they went into panic mode.

Reason: typo correction - EDM played VGK on Sunday

Perptuating myths is fun though.
The line was actually extracted from a Narcotics Anonymous publication in 1981 but still attributed to Einstein....and Mark Twain...and Ben Franklin.
Quote:
The “definition of insanity” quote first appeared in 1981, in a document published by Narcotics Anonymous. It was a sort of guide book for addicts who trying to overcome their disease, and it warned its readers that, “insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.” Narcotics Anonymous was trying to convince its members that continuing to use narcotic drugs and expecting to be able to stop on their own was folly.

Anyone know what Hitch’s salary in Dallas as a consultant was? Man Katz must love burning up money! I’m not expecting this to be the tonic for the oilers woes. I’m curious as to why Hitch would even want to enter into that disaster. It’s not like they’re gonna win anything, why not just keep consulting with Dallas, keep raking in your stress free paycheque and then retire? No, he chose to go to Canadian Siberia. At least he’ll be able to buy lots of sweatpants and nice shoes.

As long as he can eat up a year or two of McDavid's prime years, I'm happy.

This is like changing out the Captain of the Titanic after it struck the iceberg!
The problems up there run way deeper than the coach.

But he's won six Stanley Cups and therefore knows more about winning than any other human alive. Except for Glen Sather and look how many cups the Rangers have won in the last 20-something years.

Peter Chiarelli @FakeOilersGM
Hard to pick just one but my favourite memory of Todd McLellan will be his reaction when I told him it wasn't Oliver Ekman-Larsson

That’s the narrative I like
Flames beat the Oilers in a throwback BoA game
Vegas beats up the Oilers.
Flames obliterate Vegas
Oilers fire the head coach.
It’s almost like a reaction more to what the Flames are doing. Which is also funny because just 20ish games ago they scooped up the worst coach this franchise has seen in years
