Discipline - This is one of the least disciplined Flames teams I've seen in 32 years of following the team. That's on coaching and the leadership.

Hamilton - Someone needs to sit this kid down and explain how to be an NHL pro. If Engelland, Stone, or Bartkowski took those penalties, they'd be in the press box next game.

Elliot - Fantastic. Did everything he could.

Ferland, Versteeg, Brodie, Stone, Monahan - Thumbs up.

3M line - This is going to be a short series if they don't get going.

Gaudreau - Needs to stop trying to force things.

Getzlaf - Seems to have trouble putting a full season together. But when he's on, he's one of the best players in the league.

Faceoffs - Flames were crushed on the dot. I don't know what the answer is. Huge advantage for the Ducks.

I have no faith in this team. Too undisciplined, bad 3rd pairing. JG becomes invisible in these crucial games. Good night!

The most frustrating types of loses are the ones you do yourself. They give you more hope then when you're out classes, but they are so frustrating cause it's not necessary.

That change was such a tyke mistake and it changed the game. Panel is going off about our discipline but I had no issues with the Flames discipline, other than Hamilton penalty, a lot of garbage calls against us tonight and some brutal non calls in the Ducks favour.

That 5-3 was emabarrassing, couldn't gain the zone with 3 players on the ice. Gaudreau was awful tonight, looks scared, Mony and Ferly were good. Getz is truly a beast, but god do we go out of our way to make him look good.

If you think they're going to play like this the rest of the series, you really should think otherwise.

They played bad. It happens. They can play good. I don't get why it's a hard concept to grasp.

Some proming play.

Lots of stretches where they were he better team. Just can't take stupid penalties.

For me they beat themselves tonight more than it was the Ducks beating them.

They can play and compete with this team, not sure why people thought they were outclassed.

Hit it with a rocket launcher, with the lax gun laws in the States, you can claim that the building looked at you funny and you were standing your ground.

You're welcome.

2 goals went off Flames players and the other was a gifted 3 on 0

still a 3-2 game where the Flames damn near tied it up

Johnny needs to be better, I've never seen a worse 5 on 3. Team is gonna need to somehow blow the ducks out to win in the Honda center. No way in hell they are winning a close game it seems, no luck, brain farts, bad calls, you name it. Hathaway in Bouma out, should've been that the whole season

In fairness to the coaching staff, Hamilton was terrible tonight. One of his worst games as a Flame.

the one positive:

mental mistakes are correctable... we lost by 1 goal on the road...

Calgary needs to be more disciplined and we have a good chance

I'll try to be positive here. The Ducks are beatable for this Flames iteration.

The Flames played a very sloppy game. Bad PP (very easy to see in the 3rd), bad discipline, dominated in the faceoff circle, notably bad puck handling by Backlund and Hamilton early, and mostly on Elliott and Monahan trying to will the team to win. But they still had a shot throughout. Never did I think the Flames looked like they were out of the game entirely (outside maybe the mental collapse after the line change goal). Traded chances many times and the Ducks couldn't keep the defensive shell going for 20 minutes in the 3rd.

Was it getting ugly at the end? Yeah. The Flames were locked out of good scoring chances for about 12 minutes in the 3rd and threw away the gift wrapped opportunity late. But for all those issues above, I think many will clear themselves up next game and the Flames will be competitive the whole series.

It won't be a slaughter like in 2015. I feel they stand a chance of winning in Anaheim this series whereas it felt like a pipe dream last time.

I think Flames have better goaltending by a fairly large margin. Gibson looked pretty Shakey and Elliott has it in him to steal a series. Otherwise, agree with you though.

the first 10 minutes of the 3rd period was the most boring stretch of hockey -- playoffs or otherwise -- that I have seen in years.
