No, it's not okay. Melnyk has responsibilities as an owner, and among them is to present a unified front for the entire league's benefit. Going off the way he does is detrimental to himself, his team and the league.

And you believe he should recieve a greater consequence than the guy who did the slash?

And you further think he'll be ok with it, if that is how it plays out?
If he reacts the way to such a fine the way you hope he does, then my best bet is most people will start to look at him as being an even bigger doofus than he already is. The most probable result is that people will line up behind the league against him.

Yeah I have to agree that Melnyk is WAY off side in this. It's simply not the way to do things when you are a partner with an entire group that your words can have an effect on.

The whole thing has taken a ridiculous life of its own now. I mean this is from Garrioch..

And the Ottawa Senators owner says the NHL should throw the book at its best player with a suspension for his vicious slash on defenceman Marc Methot in the club’s 2-1 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night.

Really? THAT was a "vicious" slash? Laughable. Its a play that happens in almost every game ever played in the league...the stick just got Methot in a bad spot which resulted in a gory looking injury. Beyond that though, the finger wagging is reaching absurd levels.
