Flames need help on the PK. A good penalty killer type should be a waivers priority.

Do Jets fans realize that when Pavalec clears waivers, he likely stays on the team anyway and Hellebuyck goes down? I highly doubt they will bury Pavelec in the minors all year.

So you're talking Campbell, Condra or Bourque? Any of those guys stand out for you?
Might be able to make a trade for one of these guys to avoid waiver cost and keep roster flexibility.

Do it, Flames.
It would be a hell of a day for Brad if he snagged one of those two guys. Either one would help the team and would fill one of the two spots still up in the air next to Jonny-Sean or on the Michael line. Ferland is not the answer to that top line, at least not a good one.

Not convinced either of those guys would be an upgrade on Ferland. Guess we'll see

Potential good news for the pro waiver claim fans from Bob Stauffer
For those asking. I do NOT see the Oilers putting in a claim on Pulkkinen, Parenteau or McNeill.

Interested in picking up Pulkkinen, watched a few highlights and he has a cannon of a shot

Agreed, but worst case scenario, if they don't work out, you waive them again. Best case scenario you gain a decent prospect for free. Assuming Ferland is the better option on the first line, you still improve the depth we have for the season. Lucky for us Ferland is not the one they need to beat. At this point I don't think that any of Chiasson, Bollig, Vey, or Stajan did enough to solidify a roster spot during preseason. Pulkkinen has more potential than any of them, so I am cautiously optimistic.

Pulkinnen or Paranteau are intriguing. I think both would offer us improvements on the ice.

Wonder if Van would have interest in Pulkinnen?

Maybe or maybe not, But an upgrade on Chaisson? Very possible. Worth that chance. Can always throw someone back on waivers if need be

I don't think Pulkkinen makes it past VAN. Have a feeling they will want his goal scoring after losing McCann.

Unfortunately Ii think you're right. I'm sure Calgary puts in a claim, but doubt it makes it to them

Detroit fans were very upset with Frk, and most of them preferred it had been Puulkinnen instead, reasons ranging from "too slow" , "has a huge shot, but can't hit the net with it", "too soft" and "doesn't know how to play defense at all".
I would be ok with the Flames claiming him or PA, or even Mcneil and probably 2 or 3 others on the list, as long as it doesn't make the Flames lose someone else by having to put them on waivers and risk getting those players claimed.
These are all essentially borderline NHL'ers. An occasional guy does slip through and amounts to something good, but usually they will just get put on waivers later that season, or remain in the AHL most of the year.
I am not adverse to picking up anyone - I would just keep my expectations really low for anyone the Flames pick up.

It's days like this where your pro scouts earn their keep. Hopefully they had a good read on all of these guys and can pick up some talent, because I bet at least one of these players will be more than a 4th line scrub this year.

Pulkkinen I would be ok with picking up. No risk at all and possible upside. And Kevin may like having another Finn around.

Interesting the press conference for the Gaudreau signing is the same time we find out about waivers tomorrow. Maybe just a coincidence but a good time to speak on a new acquisition as well.

Pulkkinen probably doesn't get past TOR. If I recall, they were interested in him if they dealt Phaneuf to DET.
