Just a thought about NHLe and compensatory picks.
Jankowski has a higher NHLe this season than Emile Poirier, who is about three months younger.
Would people trade Poirier for a 2017 51st overall pick this offseason? If the answer is "no" then be consistent WRT Jankowski. At the very LEAST they are comparable prospects though I've had Jankowski well ahead of Poirier.

I just want to point out that if the Flames sign Jankowski to an ELC starting this year it would be a 3 year deal as he is just 21, but I think if he signs for next yer it would be a 2 year deal. I think the benefit he would receive is the bonus money and arbitration rights a year sooner

This might be a stupid question, but if Jankowski didn't sign with the Flames by August 15 (and they made him an offer) but then they ended up signing him AFTER, they wouldn't still get the compensatory pick would they?
Maybe the rules say that they would, but then they'd lose a first rounder for CBA circumvention

He's turns 22 by September 15th so it's 2 years regardless.

Incorrect. If he signs today, he is considered 22 for contract purposes (22 on Sept 15th). It is a two year ELC.
If it signs for this season, it will run from 2015-17. In 2017-18 he will be eligible to pass to the AHL without requiring waivers, but will be on a normal contract like Bill Arnold.
If it signs for next season, it will run from 2016-18.

I thought Jankowski's birthday was just after the 15th, I was thinking about the draft and him almost being ineligible and got mixed and was thinking if he was a week older he'd have been ineligible but it was a week later and he'd have been eligible for the following year

Yep. And Monahan was born on October 12th, 1994. The two centers are less than a month apart in age despite being a year apart in draft year.

Yeah, but the offer can be such a bad contract that it's essentially unsignable. You can offer a player a 2-way deal with a $35K AHL salary and no bonuses to maintain their rights and get a compensatory pick when they refuse.

Nobody knows what the ceiling is for Jankowski yet. He has the instincts and tools to be a top 6 centre but I think at worst you have a top end 3rd line C who can chip in 30-40 points. That is not a bad thing at all.

Several IV bags?
That's scary.
Hope the kid is ok.

I'm glad he was just ill. A nagging groin or hamstring injury would prevent us from getting a look at him. I'd really like to see him play a couple games in Calgary this year.

Poirier and Jankowski are pretty close in terms of ranking them as prospects IMO
It's hard to say which is better at the moment, although it looks like we will find out soon rather than later. They are quite different, but they both have many positive attributes.
Janko's size will be a bigger distinguishing factor if he can get to his final weight

I like Jankowski but the worst case scenario is that he never plays a single NHL game.

Does that somehow change what you wrote? I always assume people post things that they think/believe.
