Yeah, he was good last year, but he's been sooooo bad this year it's unbearable. Maybe last year was all he had left as a NHL goalie.
It looks like Hiller is truly done.

Yeah great sample size
Don't be intentionally obtuse. Hiller doesn't deserve to be in the net.
Flames are tanking and it is painfully obvious. Embarrassing.

I don't think you remember Joey MacDonald and Reto Berra that well. They were actively losing us games night in night out. Joey Mac called out the team for bad defensive coverage on a night where he lost us the game, got waived and never played for the Flames again.

I choose to look at every other season he's played. Down years happen, but typically he's a steady presence who is consistently in the top 15.

3. MacDonald - leader and role model for Ramo in that tough 2014 year.
4. Ortio - Promising. Went 5-1-1 last year, sucks this year apparently based off two games.
5. Hiller - Was decent last year. Won most of his games on a lucky team, and then lost the starting job in the playoffs. Then he carried that over to this year, where he's been the worst goalie in the NHL and is having one of the worst seasons by a goalie this decade.
|
Your other rationales are really weak. Regardless of what's happening right now, the only debate on the post Kipper topic is who's better Ramo or Hiller. The rest aren't even in the convo.

They're not afraid to pull off the trades needed. The Oshie, Spezza, Seguin, Sharp etc kind of trades are something the Flames just aren't in a position to do yet. Also, they get goalies. Or at least have goaltending that their respective D corps don't expose regularly.

He was pretty average last year. I'd argue Ortio had a bigger impact on us making the playoffs in his limited time.

Neither goalie deserves to start. I'd rather see Poulin.

Hawks - Missed the playoffs for seven straight seasons while building their juggernaut of a team
Caps - Look to be the team that comes out of the East, but funny things happen to DC sports teams once the playoffs start
Stars - Kari Lehtonen or Antti Niemi don't instill a lot of confidence
The pain we Flames fans are suffering now will hopefully be tears of joy in 3 - 4 years.

That's because our defence in 2014 was actively terrible.
You're forgetting that Joey Mac actually had a winning record with the Flames in 2014, and a .500 record overall with Calgary. He played here in 2013 and 2014!

Sweet comparable. Maybe we will compare Hillers AHL stats next season because there isn't a chance he's in the NHL next year.
