I think someone should form a Gay Straight Alliance party.
Much like the Wildrose Party was created to defend Property Rights, This new party can protect young children from being bullied in our schools.
Once the party is a viable opposition, maybe the government will be scared into passing the bill?

The Rick Bell article indicates that the deal will reopen all the property rights bills so this could be what they need to achieve what they want.
I guess my outrage will depend on the individual and why he is crossing. I am sure some are crossing simply to preserve their jobs and they should be identified and tossed out. Those who crossed to achieve policy that they campaigned on seem acceptable to me.
Personally, I joined the Wildrose because I think Alberta needed a strong opposition to keep the ruling party in check. I do not plan to transfer my support to the PC party though. If a credible opposition springs up in the vacuum I may support it, or I may just continue my slow slide into apathy.

We need to form our own CP party and model it after Britain's monster party or the "This is the best party we've been to party". With the weakness of the Liberals and NDP we might be able to get enough votes to achieve official funding, and that can only mean more liquor.

This is like Christmas. I want to go back and quote the dozens of WRP supporters and their hardline positions on the PCs and how they are going to form our gov't eventually, just to tell them I told you so. WRP was a flash in the pan
Gosh I hope FirstLady is lurking and reads this.

Even more now than ever, the left parties need to wise up and merge (at least 2 of the 3). There will be some dissenting PC's that want to move leftwards with all the WRP extreme-right'ers coming on board. I'd be one of them.

Can't do it, at least not as those parties sit today. I may not vote for the first time in my life.

Beyond any of the high minded comments about alignment of the right and unification etc., to me it comes down to exactly this. Blatant pursuit of power at all costs.

Most likely, if I were to make a guess I would wager that the 29th legislature will probably resemble the 26th legislature (and then some crank, probably with the surname Byfield, will create some fringe party). Rinse-Repeat.

No matter what happens I vote, even if the choices aren't appealing I'll vote even if I vote for a party that has no chances.
I once voted Marxist in an election, not because I believe in Communism or the candidate was any good, I'd never even heard of the Candidate. Its because I couldn't vote for the major parties.
I kind of chuckled at the thought of a Marxist running in an election, usually they advocate the violent overthrow of the ruling class. Even the Marxists had sold out their ideals.

I also would likely vote for some fringe party candidate. Hopefully I have a separatist candidate in my riding.

Wildrose party president vows to fight 'backroom deal' merger
Quote:
The president of the Wildrose Party is standing firm against a push by members of the party caucus — including Leader Danielle Smith — to merge the party with the governing Progressive Conservatives, calling it a “capitulation.”
In an e-mail sent today to members of the executive committee obtained by the Herald, president David Yager slams what he calls a “backroom deal” made by some MLAs.
“This is not a merger in any way. It is capitulation. It is floor crossing. If (it) were a merger, or anything that resembles a merger, I in my capacity as president would have heard something from somebody in the PC party,” he wrote.
|
Quote:
In his e-mail, Yager said he had “begged/pleaded/written/insulted” Smith not to move forward with the plan.
“While I understand how she could believe that the investment she has put into Wildrose versus what has been returned has been pretty lopsided, I have told her repeatedly that of all her career options, crossing the floor to join the PCs is the worst,” he wrote.
Smith has not returned multiple messages left by the Herald.
|
Quote:
Yager said in his e-mail that he became aware of the merger talk last week.
The party president said he wants the Executive Committee (EC) to oppose any move from the caucus to have a vote of party members on the merger.
“There is no way I can commit EC to moving ahead with whatever ratification referendum may appear. I have a document in front of the caucus today that explains that in detail,” Yager wrote.
“This document explains that the survival of Wildrose will depend on EC attacking this decision, and that if EC agrees to hold the vote, our fundraising will dry up and the party may not last long enough to count the ballots. I have described this vote as nothing but a “feel good” initiative to make the floor crossers feel better about themselves.”

You mean separation from Canada? Good lord, no! That would mean that our provincial politicians essentially become our federal politicians. This group that's barely able to handle the relatively limited scope of provincial jurisdiction would then be responsible for everything currently under federal jurisdiction as well.
Now, if you're talking about separating from the rest of Alberta and forming our own province, that's something I could get behind.
