I watched this the other day, it was alright. I don't get the hype about it though, seems like a pretty average movie.
I liked the prison scenes, but Groot and the raccoon were lame and I thought the movie would have been better without them. There's one part where Groot looks back at the camera and smiles that just made me cringe. Seemed liked such an awkward way to make the character endearing, it almost made me shut it off. And the story was bland and I found I cared little for the characters. Starlord's sex jokes didn't help, made him seem like a bit of a d##### instead of a likeable rogue, which I think is what they were going for. I honestly prefered John Carter.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts about it exactly.
I watched it on the weekend and then promptly watched it again the following day. I honestly don't remember the last time I did that. It was a really enjoyable movie and I was totally hooked from the moment Starlord started dancing around an alien planet to Redbone.
I'm so late to this party but I finally watched this yesterday. I have no idea about the comics or anything and I loved it, I pretty much had a smile on my face the entire time and was laughing quite a bit.
I think the people who don't like it are going into it expecting it to be exactly what they want since it's so hyped and they're not enjoying the movie for what it is.
Rented the movie from Redbox yesterday and absolutely loved it. It was nice to have a more lighthearted direction from the other Marvel movies. Everything really felt spot on, and the visuals were really good.
My only disappointments were because Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 skewed my view of the Nova forces and Rocket. Nova in UMvC3 was hilarious ("Blue blazes, I'm awesome!") and Rocket Raccoon had a british accent. Those are clearly minor issues though!
