This must help Florida. Also puts Vancouver down a peg in the short term, as their tending duo suddenly becomes very inexperienced.

win-win for Flames fans.

You would rather have Lack than Varlamov?? Ward? Holtby? Halak? Okay have fun with him as a starter.

This is a great trade for Luongo. He had so little value with that contract.

LOL

Varlamov, Mason, Halak, Ward, Scrivens.. all better/more proven than Lack at this point.

Why is Lack even being considered in an argument right now? He's a backup.

/end argument.

Compare the Canucks' goaltending situation to Calgary's, at the start of a rebuild. Flames have Ortio, Berra and Ramo. Canucks have Lack, Markstrom and Ericsson.

If you give me a choice I'll take the Vancouver group and run.

we'll see

Gillis is so far doing what people wanted him to do, proactive reload rather than a bottom out rebuild like Calgary/Edmonton

take a step back now to take multiple forward the next few years

Kesler deal and then maybe one of the D tomorrow could essentially save us what Flames fans went through from 2009-2013

@TSN1050Radio If Gillis is gone, Tortorella is probably gone too --- James Duthie on the aftermath of this trade.

Duthie believes the benching during the Heritage Classic led to Luongo being traded

why? Markstrom has done nothing to back up the hype. In fact, he has been pretty bad this year. He could turn out to be a starter, but at this point, it's far from a sure thing. In any case, it's a significant downgrade in goal for a couple years. And Matthias is a 3rd liner.

And on top of it, they'll pay a portion of Luongos salary for 8 years.

Good trade for Florida. Lets face it, the team has to start winning now. They've been stuck in the NHL basement for so long, you'd think this off season, they're really going to go after some more established players, and hope to make the playoffs in the next couple of years. I think Luongo can carry them there.

When you consider what Gillis got for both Luongo and Schneider I would say the total return was pretty underwhelming because they didn't get a star player in return and now have an unproven tandem of Lack and Markstrom which is comparable to what the Flames and Oilers ice.

I'm so happy I can now cheer for Luongo and still hate the Canucks. Great day. And this affirms Mike Gillis as the single worst GM in sports. Somehow ends up with only Eddie Lack and some scrubs from Luongo and Schneider. Horrible GM, please give him a lifetime extension.
