They aren't actually that dangerous to humans. As long as you're properly-dressed for winter weather, their fangs aren't long enough to puncture most winter clothing. It's only really dangerous if you fall on the snow and startle one that's in the snow underneath you. Their defense against wolves and other predators that hunt them is to lunge upward through the snow and bite. There are very rare cases of people being bit in the neck and face as a result of these attacks. So basically, if you're in snow snake habitat, try not to fall over, and if you do, get back up as fast as possible.

Sometimes it's hard when they blend in so well
That is a little easier (here in bama)
it's a little hard sometimes, if you can get away safely then do so.

There's so much wrong with this I don't even know how to respond. If it was another poster I would assume it was a troll. You don't enjoy walking in the woods unless you have a firearm to protect you? A firearm gives you a chance against a bear? Why the hell not use bear spray, you have a greater chance of actually dissuading the bear and lessen the chance of shooting yourself.
The notion of someone as apparently skittish and freaked out as you are about the possibility of wildlife encouters having a dangerous weapon is terrifying. What if I'm out hanging out in the woods and I startle you and you think I'm a bear? Sure hope you're too scared to hit me.
Honestly, never mind, just stay in your living room and never go outside.

I've only ever shot a gun a few times in my life, but I would definitely rather have something on me than nothing if an animal attacked. Could I hit it? In my imagination it seems like it would be super easy, but I know you have more experience so if you're saying it would be hard to do I'm sure you're right.

My uncle is an avid hunter. He has encountered bears several times, including once in his tent.
He told me once about how he came around a corner and surprised a grizzly which charged him. Luckily for him it was a bluff and the bear took off. He had his fully loaded hunting rifle over his shoulder and he said he was so scared that even if he could bring the gun to aim in time that there was no way he could hit anything.
For what that's worth...
