I'd rather have Nathan Mackinnon play wing than have Jeff Carter... his play isn't suited for an international rink.

So injured Hamhuis means Giordano makes the team?

Assuming they go with another lefty, who else would it be? Phaneuf?

To be honest I think the nod would go to Seabrook, based on the whole chemistry thing they seem intent on having. (Crosby-Kunitz, Perry-Getzlaf, Pietrangelo-Bouwmeester, Keith-Seabrook, etc.)

Keith and Doughty will be a pair. They were the best defensive pair last Olympics and I expect they will be together again. If Seabrook gets the call it's not because he has chemistry with Keith.

That's a good point. If I remember correctly in 2010 Seabrook was chosen based on the intention to have him play with Keith, and by the end of the tournament he wasn't taking much of a regular shift and looked a little out of place.
So if it's not chemistry/experience factoring in I'd have to retract my previous statement and say that Gio is more deserving of the call. Taking into consideration what both guys have to work with on their respective NHL teams, there's no doubt Gio is having the more impactful season. Had he not missed time I'd say there's a good chance he'd have made the team outright.

Not too happy about this. I was really looking forward to what Stamkos could contribute. Poor kid got left off the last roster, and gets injured for this one. Bad luck.

Oh no, Daniel might have to share a room with a stranger!

Based on the news Henrik Sedin won't play for Canucks prior to Olympics, it sounds just as likely Henrik won't be going to Sochi...

Nothing official on Henrik Sedin. He will make the call.

Uhhhh, the brothers have been very clear on always playing on the same team.
Looks like Daniel is probably going to stay home and nurse his dear brother back to health.

You think the Canucks medical staff wouldn't want to clear him for the Olympics if he's still injured, if he's not good enough to play NHL games right now he probably should be taking the olympic break off.
Backlund on the other hand can have his bags packed in an hour...

I saw this on Sportsnet:

Tortorella said he'd prefer if Henrik didn't got to Sochi but it's a delicate situation and when it comes to Country the player will decide.

2 games before Sochi, Team Canada's Hamhuis still out of #Canuck lineup. But he is close. Expected to practise Fri, play Sat in TO.

St. Louis earned his way on this roster by his consistent play before the selections and since.
11th in the NHL couldn't be overlooked twice.
Stevie Y got a chance at a do over and made the right choice.

If anyone wasn't aware, Eric Francis either knows nothing or just likes to say stupid things to get attention. None of his criticisms of the St Louis selection made any sense, and his alternate selection would've been one of Eric Staal or Tyler Seguin.
For those that didn't hear:
1. He's too small. Team America named big guys as their reserves. On big ice. So we can't have a small guy. The teams that have won the Stanley Cup recently have all been big teams. This is a two-week best-on-best tournament. Never mind that St-Louis has a Stanley Cup, and he got it against a big mean team that was allowed to get away with a helluva lot more than teams are allowed now.
2. He's 38 years old. He's also the reigning Art Ross winner, and again, this is a two week best-on-best tournament. He's not all of a sudden going to age five years in the next 18 days.
3. Oh yeah, he's still small. Fleury was small, he won a gold medal too.
I feel like I've wasted the time it took to write this. I dislike Francis a whole lot after this interview.

Yzerman had already said he took himself out of the decision making process when it came to players on his own team.

Feel bad for Giroux because he deserves it as well, but this is Marty's last chance to play for Canada. He's earned this.
