Does it really matter? Just because a small portion of the world expects to be lavished in a 5 star resort doesn't mean the rest of the world feels the same way.
If I were there, the least of my worries would be the quality of the linens and a modest paint job.
Again, it's not about the standard of the country, it's about the standard of a showpiece when you're hosting the rest of the world.
Take this for what it's worth, we know the wife of someone on the Olympic Team here in Calgary and she was saying that the *Athlete* accommodations are some his favorite yet in 2 Olympiads (apparently better than Vancouver) and the food is surprisingly top shelf. He's quite happy. Hopefully he does well it'll be his last one.

Which as I stated before I could truly care less about the journalists etc, because after all the Olympics is about the Athletes, and not the journalists.
i have worked numerous Olympic games and am presently in Sochi and staying in a media "hotel" They are really like apartment blocks. There are some rooms that have had problems - but I have no issues with my room. Plumbing works fine, its clean. The decor is a little spartan but I am here to work anyways
Lot of media hype over some problems. But every Olympics I have been at have had similar stories.

Attempted hijacking in Ukraine. A passenger on a Turkey-bound flight unsuccessfully tried to have the plane diverted to Sochi by claiming to have a bomb.
It is interesting how no athletes have complained, just media. I hate Russia as much as the next guy (probably way more), but even I think it's time for these babies to get over it.
Me too. Because the user is only very new, and already had fata in his/her vocabulary, I'm guessing they were banned and well on their way to being punted again.
