Not going to say it would be a mistake.. but not going to say I'm enthusiastic over the idea, either. I do like Backlund. But at the same time if he doesn't elevate his game (and Now) then he would be overtaken by our depth at C in due time anyways, I think..
But the time for him has been "now" to step up for some time, and so far this season he has disappointed. Though I think he should be receiving more 2-3 line ice time to make a proper evaluation. Especially before he is traded, if it does indeed happen. We do need to be sure about this one, at least as sure as we can be.

He couldn't supplant a 19 year old rookie, couldn't supplant Colborne and definitely won't push Stajan out of the lineup.
Too bad, 'cause Backlund has shown spurts in the past. Just nothing sustained.

He had a phenomenal game against Colorado when he got the chance to play with Hudler and Cammy. Next game he was on the fourth damn line.

I know it's been asked before but can he not be converted to wing?
Hasn't he played wing before?

After tonights game, even an avid Backlund fan like myself is finding it difficult to find reasons to keep him and let him rot on the Fourth line. He's being outplayed by Monahan and Colborne. Got to be fair to Backlund as well and try to find a good situation for him.
He does have value but I think it's going to be a lateral move and swap him out for an upgrade in another position. Won't be a center for center deal.

So we could win the Stanley Cup.
Flames needed a backup goaltender and a shutdown defenseman.
Flames brass sat at the table and question was asked if we were ready to give up a 40 goal scorer and the answer was, yes. So, they asked another question if we were ready to give up a 50 goal scorer and the answer was the same.
Thus the trade was made.

To get the extra players we needed to win the Cup. Rob Ramage on defence and Rick Walmsley as a solid backup for Vernon.
Fletcher said at the press conf that the Flames knew they were trading away a player who would probably score 50 or more goals in a season. The deal was made as the 2 players acquired were the missing pieces mgnt felt could get them over the top and the Cup.

Put me in the group that thinks Colborne is a #3, Monahan is currently a #2 and we lack a top line guy. Backlund is not that guy so let's see if we can move him

I'd still like to see him try playing wing even if they are already overloaded on it... Might benefit him imo.

I am a big Backlund fan and thought he looked great tonight.
If he is to be traded, Feaster/Burke/Weisbrod better make sure its a great deal.

Burke style of team management:
-publicly question players commitment to media
-Use big words like truculence
-Leak false trade info to get more out of player or increase said players value

You only have to look as far as our own roster to see what that kind of player can return in a trade - when Feaster flipped a 4th rounder for TJ Galiardi.

If Backs is still here by Wed I'd like to see him on the wing if for nothing bit curiosity.
Baertschi-Monahan-Hudler(we're up against the powerhouses anyway)
Cammalleri-Stajan-Stempniak
BJones-Colborne-Backlund
Bouma-Galiardi-McGrattan

Common sense when he doesn't even know the age of the player in question?

Considering he is 24, I'd say he is closer to that age then 25. If you want to say 24 and 1/2 then by all means do so, but pretty sure most people stopped doing that when they were three.
