that PK/PP cost them that one, but other than that, a very solid effort.

I'll take that effort all season and if they finish low, oh well.

- Monahan looked like a junior player. Give him a few more games, but if I had to decide now, he would be sent down.
- The "top line" wasn't very good except for Stempniak.
- Backlund looks like he is turnign into a nice overall player.
- Galiardi had a good first game as a Flames except for the stupid penalty.

Only coaching issue I had was Street on the powerplay over Sven.
Seriously?

Pretty much what I predicted the season will be like in the predictions thread. The Flames will not have problems scoring, it will be keeping it out of the net that will be the issue. A point against a much better Caps team in their home opener, I will take it.

A lot of players looked good today. I really liked the game of Russel, Giordano, Sven, Backlund, Stajan, Jones, Stempniak, Bouma, Street, McGratton

The only players I thought were awful was Ramo.

All in all, quite a good start to the season. Im a happy camper. The future looks bright!

Stupid stupid STUPID stupid stupid penalty TJ...wtf

At least he owned up to it, if we're going to play win as a team, lose as a team, I better see some hustle from him in Columbus to redeem himself.

I think other than trying to reenact Ian White on Jordan Eberle, Russell had a decent game.

I think Russel was the 2nd best defenseman out there tonight for the Flames.

No problem with that game, entertaining to watch and the kids are alright.

On to the next one!

PK and PP were all for the most part. Your not winning many games unless that gets better. Great 5 on 5 though. I thought the flames dominated 5 on 5. Baertschi looked decent, Monahan was pretty nonexistent, but nothing bad. A couple nice plays maybe.
Backlund was outstanding

He did it twice and then knocked it off after Ovechkin toe-dragged past him. When he just played positionally, he was solid.

A lack of high end talent will be evident all year. Effort will be the only thing to make it bearable.

Not saying I disagree but Monahan was 4-5 on draws. Backlund was 6-16....

some people are going to be upset when the flames win and upset when they lose...those people should find a new hobby because this is supposed to be fun!

I thought Ramo played great. Can't blame him for any of the goals. One break away, 2 unstoppable deflections, and that last goal was a failure to deal with the scramble + stupid penalty to take in the first place.

Good to see Gio rebound a little from last year, and I liked the way Sven played. We'll see where Monahan goes from here.

Monahan's line was as good as any other. Kind of feared they'd get in trouble but I didn't notice them struggling more than anyone else. Some credit goes to Hartley too, I'm sure.

Some of the veteran forwards were a little less than I expected.
