Overall good effort.
- Ramo might have issues with his side-to-side motion
- Wasn't impressed by Russell, but it's only the first game.
- Giordano looks like his old self.
- Brodie was smart with the puck.
- Monahan looked like a junior player. Give him a few more games, but if I had to decide now, he would be sent down.
- The "top line" wasn't very good except for Stempniak.
- Backlund looks like he is turnign into a nice overall player.
- Galiardi had a good first game as a Flames except for the stupid penalty.
Only coaching issue I had was Street on the powerplay over Sven.

Except the old team was a veteran team led by all stars, the current team is in the first year of a rebuild.
You should expect lots of shaky plays and mistakes this season. At least now there's a good reason for that.

Was impressed with all 3 of them and liked the compete level from Sven. It appears Sven has taken Burke's words to heart and wants to prove him wrong and show Burke and Feaster......

Played pretty well. I really like the fact that we bring the puck out of our zone a lot better. We were awful at that last year. Lots of good passing, and players finding each other. Lots of drive and fight, and some real positives. The mix of players is really good.
Obviously not great to give up a 3-0 lead and lose the game, but we would have learnt a lot here. Ramo needs a lot of work.
Washington isn't an easy place to go, especially since it was their home opener. Their PP is deadly.
Ovechkin is absolute dynamite.

Monahan centering Drouin and Shinkaruk at the WJC would be nice to see.

Oh, I agree. I still find it rather ironic though.

I'm not sure why you are so adamantly defending the guy? He didn't let in any stinkers but he didn't make any big game saves. It was a mediocre display. It's only one game and that doesn't make a season but lets not sugarcoat his game tonight. Maybe the bar is lower now Kipper has retired but that doesn't mean we have to start praising mediocre results from our goaltenders.

You predicted they might be the worst team in franchise history. They are well on their way to being better than that man.

Sven looked more involved in plays in todays game then any of the rookie tournament or pre-season games. Hopefully this carries on, because I thought he looked really good.
Better result then what I thought the outcome would have been. And really if the OT was any longer I think we would have won. Pretty good effort overall tonight.

I'd take an entire season of games like that. Both entertaining and dually constructive to our rebuild. Kids get ice and we get a good pick.

Oh yeah, have to mention Backlund, I liked the early signs. He'll propably get regular time with Cammalleri once Cammy's healed, which I think should help things.
