Eric Francis is only speculating and spreading rumor. Nobody who is actually at the Saddledome has confirmed the amount of water in the lower bowl. 5th row, 10th, row, 12,th row. It's all rumor right now and not verified by actual sources with boots on the ground there. The only thing confirmed is that there is damage inside.

The NHL site says "Francis tweeted Friday morning that flood waters had submerged the first 10 rows of seats in the arena, which is the home of the Calgary Flames. The arena's dressing rooms also suffered extensive damage and the Jumbotron and other equipment resting on the arena floor were ruined, Francis tweeted."

How much are they going to spend on that, knowing it's for 3-4 years max? I expect the City will do any repairs as cheap as possible for that reason (though I don't know what the Flames/City/Stampede agreement is and who has what say in these decisions).

Based on the live shots of the stampede grounds surrounding the 'Dome, I can't imagine there are many people in the area/building to report on the damage.
Stampede Trail looks like a grade 4 or 5 rapids.

The last report has water up to the level of suites from last renovation, just incredible. As edmonton fan I wouldn't ever wish this in my worst enemy. I hope everyone in Calgary stays safe and without a doubt will rally together and be even stronger after this.

Word out of Calgary is that the Saddledome is flooded up to the luxury boxes now. #uncle

the two newest in the league (NJ and PITT) both opened 24 months after construction began
so if the Flames started this August, it could be open for the 2015/16 season

Temporary dressing rooms until/unless the damaged ones can be ripped out and replaced.
The Dome will be operational by the time the hockey season starts. But I suspect nearly everything from now until then will be cancelled.

I was thinking more like the 2nd quote
of course you clean up and make it habitable if possible because 2 years of 82 Calgary gates makes up any gains you make of not clean up and playing 82 times somewhere else
but I could see a bare bones cleanup and setting aside money for the new building

yeah so still need 2 years for the Flames to play somewhere. They're gonna have to fix the Dome.

I doubt the dome will be ready in time for the 2013-14 season. Where would teh Flames play if the dome wasn't up to speed?

I think there is a lot of jumping the gun here on impacts. Who knows, and very possible things are really bad, but as it stands now, I can't imagine the Dome not being ready in two months for the start of the season, in fact if you forced me to lean in any direction, I'd lean towards it being functional for Stampede in two weeks.

I can't imagine the Saddledome being damaged to the extent it could not be repaired in 3 months. It is largely concrete. If it is, then the new building plans jump from blueprint to imprint. In that case, I still believe the team plays out of Calgary.

As far as ice plant is concerned, the league owns a couple.

Exaclty, hopefully not the case, but I'd be very surprised if the Dome suffers structural damage due to this. If it doesn't, yes it will be expensive, but once the water is dry, there is nothing in there can't be replaced in a matter of weeks if they really wanted to.

I heard the Saddledome has been seen floating down the Bow.

Insane that this has happened but all those times driving across the elbow on the boston pizza bus. With so much of the seating and ice surface below ground. I had a gut feeling this could happen one day.
My best guess is the team will play in Edmonton.. Alot of Flames fans there and seating capacity. But how unbelievably weird would that be?

I suspect that the Flames would play in Calgary some where, COP or Max Bell? I further suspect that the insurance coverage would cover loss of income. That being said the owners could make more money playing to 5,000 people than to 15,000 in saskatoon.
