Wayyyyyyyy too early to speculate about repairs and the team. I'd GUESS that a week after they get in there to check things out, they'll have an idea.

doesn't it take like 3-5 years to build an arena?

More likely: With the first overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, the Calgary/Saskatoon/Red Deer/Lethbridge/Medicine Hat/Regina Flames select...

About the same time frame as a "rebuild"...are the hockey Gods trying to tell us something??

Yeah. Pick out the players two by two — two goalies, two centres, and so forth — and build an ark.

Clean up and repairs, and that isn't even a question up for debate. The Flames need somewhere to play, and it will be the Saddledome. Barring any structural damage (which seems somewhat unlikely), it wouldn't take long to replace seats and any damage to the ice making equipment. Temporary dressing rooms until/unless the damaged ones can be ripped out and replaced.
The Dome will be operational by the time the hockey season starts. But I suspect nearly everything from now until then will be cancelled.

Good point.
Maybe a blessing in disguise.

Ice plant at the rink I play at was submerged by the hurricane in October, we were on the ice 3-4 weeks later.

Yep, not even a remote possibility that you spend the money on a new arena instead. Maybe they don't do some of the cosmetic work, but not cleaning and repairing the Dome means moving the team for 2+ seasons.

MacDonald - Ramo
Giordano - Brodie
Glencross - Baertschi

Gets tricky because the Stampede board still has a stake in the Saddledome and operations. The new building, depending on where it is, may have no Stampede board involvement. The insurance claim may be under the Stampede board, who knows.

Wouldn't it be the City of Calgary getting the cheque and deciding what do with it? The Flames manage the arena, but they don't own it. I am sure the Flames would have their own insurance claims insofar as the flooding affects Flames LLP, but I believe the hardware belongs to the City...

Hey All,
This is Mike, the publisher of LetsGoSharks.com. Wanted to check in to see how everyone was holding up, and to let you know we're thinking about everyone from here in California.
Traded Tweets with a Calgarian who frequents our forums, to he how bad it was. Sounds devastating.
Just wanted to let everyone know that your friends from the south are following things from afar. Hope everyone is OK.
Mike

Of all the new buildings built over the last 20 years, most are about 2 years from ground-breaking to grand opening. I believe Ottawa's was the quickest at just over 18 months, and Montreal's was the slowest at 3 months shy of 3 years.
Of course, Calgary is a long way from being ready to break ground, and if the scale of the plans are as big as is being suggested, it will be a while before the new arena is ready, and I can't see them rushing things.

So, with the location yet to be decided, does the flooding right now impact that decision making process?
Can't see how it wouldn't.

I guess the positive out of this is that with a new ice plant coming in maybe the ice at the Dome won't be terrible like it has been.
